It is not rimfire. It is a rimmed centerfire cartridge.

You can see here the case is rimmed. The primer is still in the center though. A rimfire cartridge would have primer inside the case along the rim.

It is a "rimmed" cartridge like the .303 british but it is not rimfire. Rimfire means that there is no primer in the center and rather the primer is built into the rim of the cartridge.

Now this Mosin-look-a-like IS actually rimfire! Freaks out the RO's at Angeles when I step up to the pistol line with it to shoot at the steel swingers. :D

ok. if its got a primer in the middle of it, it's centerfire.
if theres no primer, its a rimfire. 99.9999992% of your caliber questions can be solved by this method.

Ah yes. Your friend, you say. C'mon, admit it's your rifle supermario... haha

Or it can solve 100% of your rimfire vs centerfire questions.

Or it can solve 100% of your rimfire vs centerfire questions.
i dont like to use that term, 100%. Someone will invariably come up with some obscure cartridge from the late 19th century with a primer anvil swaged into the case, or something equally weird....
