Does anyone make a bullet button for a SCAR. I really am interested in buying one but don't knowhow to make it CA friendly.

I saw one on the range and it had a custom BB installed. I think the owner said he bought it from Cold War Shooters. They have Sal working for them, so it's probably his design.

When these go below $2K they'll actually be worth it.

:iagree:

Until then, it's a nice rifle--but there are a whole lot of other things I'd buy for $2,500. I don't think it's "twice the gun" that a good AR15 is, at half the price.

But damn if I still don't want one...

The SCAR-H isn't out yet, is it? That's the one I want...

Yeah there is a BB for the SCAR. ColdWar Shooters has had them for sale here in California, but being CWS prepare to pay. They wanted almost 5K for them a few months back.

Yeah but SOF and SOCOM preferred the SCAR. Since the SCAR won the contract it's tough to go with an ACR. SOF is a helluva endorsement.

I asked in a previous post but haven't been able to figure it out: anyone know if the SCAR-H has been released yet? I didn't think so, but I could be wrong. I looked around online and can't find one for sale that's not airsoft. It's the H I'm interested in- for 5.56 I already have ARs.

I think I saw the same one at Angeles Range. Nice gun, but IF I get a SCAR I would want the heavy in .308

SOF isn't very happy with the SCAR and there have been rumors the contract is back up for grabs. I will go search the internet now to validate this information. In my opinion, it is way overpriced and way overhyped. The stock has many problems with breaking at the pivot point, the charging handles is way to high and it is reciprocating so good luck with not getting your hand smacked. That is just dumb engineering. Try and mount an Eotech on the top and tell me how much you like charging your new "SCAR." I could rant for days on how the SCAR is not the best weapon for our GI's. There is way to much political BS when it comes to selection of a new rifle. You don't think there are people who had stake in FNH to help get it through? It is the M16 all over again but with a couple new features. I hope I don't come across as being a pessimist. I just hope everyone does their research before they drop $2600 on a platform they may not be happy with.
Noveske AR 15 w/ everything: $1800
EoTech XPS: $500
10 Pmags: $150
Magpul MS2 sling: $50
Grand Total of $2500.

MasterYong, I don't think that FN has ever announced plans of releasing a civilian SCAR-H. Maybe in the future, but definitely right now the only civilian SCAR available is 5.56

Last I heard, the FN SCAR-17S (civilian legal semi-auto only SCAR-H) has a Q2 2010 release time frame.

H&K will have the MR-556 and MR-762 out on the market (Q4 2010) before Remington/Bushmaster releases the ACR (? 2012 ?).
MSRP for the H&K MR-556 is suppose to be around $2000-2500 and MSRP for the H&K MR-762 is suppose to be around $2500-3000.

since the ACR called the Masada at the time of the trials did not participate in the competition how did SOCOM prefer the SCAR over a rifle that did not compete? The XCR did which may have been what you are thinking of.

$2695 is more than what my car is worth. If someday they mass produce the FN SCAR and get the price down to what an AR-15 pattern rifle is today, then I would buy one.

I just read an article on FNs web site yesterday when I was looking into this that said Q1 2009, but the article was from '07 or '08 so I'm sure it's been pushed back since then. Someone else quoted Q2 2010 which sounds more realistic at this point.

There will be a semi-auto SCAR-H, called the 17S. Who knows when it will become available. http://www.fnhusa.com/le/products/firearms/model.asp?fid=FNF054&gid=FNG006&mid=FNM0153

I read that FN did NOT want to make the charging handle reciprocating (for obvious reasons) but the military specifically told them to do that. I believe it has something to do with the ability of the SCAR to move the charging handle to either side of the rifle (which is very cool).

I don't understand all of the hate towards the SCAR. The AR-15 has had 50 years of engineering and refinements. Every patent for the AR-15 is expired so anyone can simply clone the work that took others millions of hours and billions of dollars to design. No one says you have to buy a SCAR now. The rifle has barely hit the field of battle for the first time. How about giving the thing a few years and FN a little time for feedback from the users so refinements can be made.

This same kind of hate (or worse) was thrown at the AR-15 when it first arrived. But now everyone holds on to their precious AR like it was birthed from some Gun Goddess.

Give it time people. Geez.
