View Full Version : Anyone have photos of Daniel Defense 10" Lite Rail Installed?

I was browsing the Daniel Defense website and saw that they have a 10" AR Lite Rail ("extended midlength").

Anyone have pics of one installed on a 14.5" AR? The pic they have on the site is probably a 14.5", but it just seems kind of short to me. Probably an optical illusion.

Oh, and pics of a DD AR Lite 9" rail on a 14.5" would help too...

Thanks in advance!

i don't know if this helps, but it's a DD Lite 9" on a 16" barrel that has the spike's fake supressor. i posted this because the fake supressor only adds like an 1/8th of an inch to a 16" bbl so the OAL looks just about the same as a 14.5" w/ perf FH.

Yeah, it does help. This confirms optically/visually that the photo on DD's website of the 10" rail is mounted on a 11" barrel and not a 14.5.

Thanks, dude. I think I might buy the 10" one then to get a little extra space up front for flashlight mount, etc.

no problem. here's the same set up with a Troy MRF Rifle Length - 12" to give you another look at length set ups. i run 12" rails on most of my 14.5" builds. it gives you more mounting options.

Sa-weet! Thanks dude--those pics make the decision quite a bit easier. I would prefer the 10" based on looks, but I think I'll go with the because of the extra room in front of the vert. grip in your top photo.

i really like to have my front sight on the gas block. it just seems.... "righter" to me. ;) it looks like that extra inch is just so you cant see the gas block. mall ninjas take note. i'll stick with sights that are permanently attached to the rifle. not trying to talk down about a product, i just am kind of an a-hole. :)

am9000, that is one sweet rig and pretty much what I'm going for next, except the 14.5" vs. 16" barrel... Thanks for taking the pic!

sevensix2x51, you aren't an a-hole. Real a-hole's can't poke fun at themselves. Anyhoo, I used to feel the same way about fixed front sights, but I'd like to try a 12 o' clock light mount and am getting tired of the sight always taking up space in my red-dot's "window." Addax gave me the idea to futz around with my forearm and front sight when I was asking about replacement barrels.

yankee hill makes this exact sight with a picatinny rail at 6 o'clock (for your light maybe), if that tickles your fancy.....

Ohhhh, I get you. You weren't talking about fixed FSBs, you were talking about actually having the front sight (flip-up okay) on the gas block. Duh, my bad.

I agree--the rail-mounted flip-up front sights seem kind of "too-tall" where they're placed. But I would prefer to get as much rail length as possible to get more room to grab onto the forearm even with all sorts of stuff attached to the front. Covering the gas block is sort of a must for me in that case.

I too appreciate the fixed front sites. I put the PRI FSB on my AR pistol.

Noooo!! 12" rail baby! Esp if you plan to put a X300 type light at 12 o'clock. You won't have enough room for stuff w/o a 12" rail. (e.g. front sight + light + pressure switch if you want one, or in-line NV for late night zombie defense :D) Actually, we tried to put in-line NV on the setup below but there wasn't enough room as the front sight interfered with it!

pacrimguru,

Does that spike's fake suppressor fit inside the DD lite rail like the troy MRF rail you have?

Please let me know.

Thanks!

Sorry for the thread jacking...

agreed, esskay, D needs to go full rifle length... here's my copy of your set-up.

dalokster, sorry, nope, the spike's fake suppressor does not fit under the DD lite. the DD lite has a smaller overall profile than the troy MRF.

I have been pondering whether to move the pressure switch to one of the sides, because it takes so much real estate on top.

BTW, which rail is that? I like the built-in QD at the end.

Thanks for the info! One day I'll have a kick *** collection like you!

BTW what is the difference between the new and old version of the TROY MRF rail?

Are you referring to his comment about the new MRP rail? If so, he was referring to an LMT MRP upper not the Troy rails. The monolithic LMT MRP upper has had a couple small upgrades over the years -- first they added a built-in QD socket near the rear of the foreend. Then, apparently, they've added another built-in QD socket near the front of the foreend.

oh i get it. Then please excuse my errant posting. :)
what would be rad (and also is probably already being made, i just havent seen) is a long rail with a cutout for a front sight like mine. Then i could have my cake and eat it to...
Just thinking out loud...

No biggie, your photo still helped a lot. I'm just trying to get an idea of the 10" Lite Rail, and all the pics helped put it in perspective. Thanks!

Aren't you talking about the Daniel Defense FSP (cut-out for Front Sight Post) rails?

Noooo!! 12" rail baby!

Got it dude, you and pacrim sold me on the 12"! Now to find one cheap and in stock...

esskay

Don't know if it's cheap but there is the DD 12.0 FSP so you don't have to swap on a low profile gas block. Doesn't give the same flexibility as a regular 12" rail though.
