View Full Version : My AR Profile

10-18-2009, 9:54 PM
There are hundreds of repeat threads asking the same AR15 based questions, and I got to thinking what would be a good way to cut down on some of the shenanigans? Well here is what I came up with,

I would love to see a single thread of no bs posts consisting of a single side-view picture (Everyone has one of all their guns! It's the all encompassing, the best single angle to see the entirety of a rifle), and a standard form listing the components. Consider it a gun profile.

It would allow you to browse easily through what would be a Calgun member's AR-15 gallery / database, in thread form! And by trolling around on it you could get a sense of what components people chose to fit certain roles. I think it would cut down on a lot of needless posts and be a great resource of information, not to mention damn fun to scroll through. Plus members could easily use the url of the posts detailing their rifles in their profile signatures. Wonder what kind of AR15's the guy that's dominating some na´ve misinformed first timer with some words of wisdom? Click on “My AR-15” or “My XBrand AR-15” in their signature and see a picture of it, and a concise list of all it's parts. Oh, it would be an awesome day.

So here is my idea for the list, open to suggestions/additions/reductions of course.

Upper: *
Barrel: (company, length, twist) *
Trigger: (company, pressure)
Lower: *
Grip: (back, foreward if applicable)
Stock: *
Magazine: *
Optics: (if applicable)
Sights: (if applicable)
Bipod: (if applicable)
Sling: (if applicable)
Light: (if applicable)
Paint: (if applicable)
Use: (try and keep it concise, ie “paper shredding @ 200 yards”) *

So I know there is a lot there, but most of it wont be applicable to the average build. I wanted people that really put the time and effort into picking out every little detail of their stick to be able to list the components they are so happy with (hopefully). At the very least I think this is necessary for each post as it would take minimal effort to recall:

Like I said, I think that this could be a wealth of information for both members and newcomers alike. Keeping it clean of off topic posts would surely be a task, but a task that would be worthwhile because of the benefit of having the resource. Surely there is a resident hardass mod that wouldn't mind flexing some talent on people that can't follow simple directions, and take ownership of this idea! “Calgun's AR-15 Gallery”

So for anyone interested in participating in this experiment, please head on over to THIS THREAD (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?p=3235909&posted=1#post3235909)

Yeah, while that is a great source, many of the pictures do not include a parts list, so identifying a stock becomes a new reply in that thread, or god forbid a new post asking "what is X stock?" What I am trying to accomplish with this is having a gallery that has enough information to really help educate and identify (or show off).
