Hi,
I am very interested in building one of these rifles. If I buy a barrell from copes how hard is it to find the rest of the parts? How much for a complete rifle? Is the build fairly simple or do I need to be a gunsmith? Should I just buy a complete PSL? I like the fact it shoot 7.62x39. Any help would be great, the sooner the better so I can get one of these. Thanks

This is not going to be a quick, easy, or inexpensive build. It's also a "virgin barrel build". Unless you're and advanced builder, forget it. There is however, a guy that will put the front end together for you and headspace for $80 shipped. What you get back is a barrel with the front sight, gas block and rear sight base pinned on. The headspace will also be adjusted properly. Then you build as normal. Press on the barrel to the rivet trunnion.

Parts and labor if you finish the build will add up to about $1,100. If you have someone build it for you, add another $250-$300.

Parts are easy to find. I can post on the thread the sources. The only difficult one right now to find, are virgin scope mount rails. If enough orders can be placed, I think the guy who makes them from scratch would be willing to make more. Or you can rivet on one of the aftermarket rails, but it wouldn't look correct.

If anyone has anything to add please feel free to share your experience.

Correct side scope rails

Pupwag on ARF.com can modify your gas block and front sight, as well as make the scope rails.

What gas block do they use?

The original Yugo M70 gas block from the parts kit. The grenade sight is removed and the GB welded up. Pupwag will modify it for you. There's also a source for engraving the front trunnion. I think it's a pyramid. Will have pics when my completed and mounted barrel comes back. For the cleaning rod, just use the one that comes with the Saiga. It's 23 inches long.

not to thread jack, but what do you think about turning an RPK as a tabuk clone?

It can be done, but it's not really a Tabuk clone. Close though. The Romanian AES -10 has the scope rail, and the barrel is threaded the same.

Where'd you send yours to get built? I don't want to deal with the hassle of drilling the barrel for all the pins.

Nicely done. Who did your scope rail welding?

I actually Riveted a AK47 Rail I was going to have pug mod me one for it, but then I really wanted the ability to use what ever works instead of the PSL/POSP/ units. The weapon system was used with so many different scope and mount setups that nothing is really the correct one. I will say My total build out of pocket for this thing is 530.00 and that is about 250.00 in trades. I barreled two AMD front ends on us barrels for a guy that paid me with a Bulgy SF stock complete. I sold that to DPH Arms for 225.00 and then paid for the GB and Barrel. I rent my shop in Denton to guys who need the help and tools and that is how I fund all my gun stuff. I really have about 60.00 out of pocket.
