Well depending on the upper you use you can get a complete and eco lower built up with a Standard LPK. If using a Ramped bolt you do not need a 9mm hammer, you will need a 9mm buffer, and some sort of mag block if you are not going with a dedicated 9mm lower. I think you saw a deal for the 9mm dedicated lower at $440, keep in mind you still have about a $65 to $100 Transfer Fee to pay on top of that. So factor that into your final cost.

A built lower will run in the $300+ range for a decent stock and what not. The RRA 9mm upper is nice, if you don't mind stock HG's which I do not. A block is somewhere around $100 with a mag, $25 or so for a buffer. You are already looking to spend around $1,000 and that is for a no thrills 9mm AR which can be modded little by little.

I would recommend looking into getting a complete dedicated 9mm from CMMG for $800 or so range, plus fees and taxes for about $900 or so OTD.

Cheapest route to locate yourself a used 9mm upper, and buy a built and barely used lower to put on it. Remember you get out what you put into it. IMHO there is no real cheap budget way to build an AR. But that is me, so look around and good luck.

gio. thanks for the info . iam looking for a full 9mm build. looked at cmmg website , they sell the whole rifle for 900-1000 , also heard if you order through them directly it will take a long time to ship , or it depends on the their stocks. any recommendation for a vendor?
actually the $440 complete 9mm lower is posted here on commercial sales.

Build the upper yourself and you could probably go cheaper. Get a C&R FFL and you get some more discounts. Here is my breakdown for my 9mm pistol:

DSA stripped upper: $66 +/-
ST 10.5'' barrel: $145
CMMG BCG: $159.99

That comes in at about $377.99. I have the tools, FA and a dust cover on hand. Don't need to worry about the gas system, now I just need to choose a handguard. Of course again I also have an 03 FFL discount but that is only about 10%.

It is an Out of State FFL and the Transfer Fees alone along with Tax depending on whom you use for the Transfer will set you back another $100 or more easily, so might be easier to have a Local Vendor order one for you and you build it yourself. I know there is a Vendor here selling the 9mm CMMG Lowers, look around for it.

CMMG should be CA friendly, like I said look for a Vendor that can get it for you.

Now that 9mm Dedicated Lowers and Uppers are in Demand the price has gotten a little bit higher. I built my Featureless 9mm AR for a lot more then $1,000 but I really like the way it turned out, just too bad I never take it out to the Range and shoot it :o

Buy the upper complete I would, also the lower is really simple to build. A caveman could do it, it is so easy to do.

thanks for the advices, as far as building one. dont have the right tools on hand.

I have used a $10 c-clamp, $10 set of punches and the $35 wrench. I used to have the action block which is an additional $40.

You pay for my fuel and let me crash at your place and I will bring over some brewskies :D Just make sure to have some Dr. Pepper or Pepsi on ice for me ;)

And yes a 9mm AR is doable for under $1K but mine wasn't so :p

+1 on the VM Hy Tek 9mm mag well. That is a quality piece of hardware. I recommend these if you have UZI mags. They don't need to be converted if you use this mag adapter. If you use Colt or C-products mag the Hahn Machine Works mag adapters are works of art as well.

Not trying to thread jack but wasn't sure if I should make my own because I need similar advice.

I was thinking of purchasing RRA 9mm Carbine length upper for $480 and CMMG dedicated 9mm complete lower receiver for $325. Is this all I need to be up and running?

Yep, make sure to get a 9mm buffer, magazines and you're good to go.

It's good sub 100 yard shooter! Shooting filled water bottles with 9mm vs. .223 at 50 yards, the 9mm will make a good explosion, while the .223 will sometimes just past through.

I believe the CMMG upper comes with a ramped bolt so you just need a standard lower, that's my plan. I would rather not have a special hammer for a 9mm.

Shameless i know, but ive got a complete lower with magpul stuff for $250 in the FS section.
