Which caliber is better and why? I know that is an extremely vague questions so let me clarify. I did some ballistics research (not much), and it looks like they similar trajectory data....both drop about -40inch at 500 yards, according to the charts I read on the Guns & Ammo site. I have a great .243 that I am selling because I need the $....but love shooting. I am going to get a Remy 700 in the future and wanted a flat trajectory carterage for long range that had some punch to it....without going to the .300wm, anybody have any experience or suggestions?

I have both...In Ca I loved my .243 for killing deer, pigs, yotes...etc.
Now I have bigger stuff to kill so I am gearing up the .270
The .243 makes a hell of a great target shooting round though...

7mm rem mag and wsm are nice rounds. I have an older winchester model 70 in 7mm rem mag its pretty nice.

I have a Rem 788 in .243, a real tack driver. I'll never get rid of it. I do not have a .270 but I do have a another Rem 788 in .308. If I could only have one of the two I'd take the .308... It just can do more. So my suggestion, go with a .270.....
Better at what? Guys kill elk with 270's all the time, not many would suggest a 243 for that. 270 is a more versatile round, good enough for most game. I use a .243 for deer and antelope, have made clean kills with 100grn sierra gamekings out to 450 yds in Montana where I am from. .270 throws a heavier bullet with more powder producing more recoil.
If guy only wanted one rifle, it would be hard to beat a .270
but then theres always a 25-06
It depends on what you want to use it for.
If you plan on doing long range target work get the 243 as there are very few good .277 target bullets. If you're gun doesn't like them then you're SOL. There are a lot of great target .243 bullets.
If you are hunting, the 270 will shoot a heavier bullet faster.

I have a 243, 270 & 7mm RemMag. If I could only have 2, I'd take the 243 & 7mag. I love my 270 and have taken plenty of game with it but the 7mm will do everything the 270 will and then some.

.243 and a 300 winmag are my two picks for guns to do anything on this continent.

243 if you're aiming at paper at 1000 yards.....

.270, but don't forget about the 30-06.

Or the .280 if you're a true Rem fan.
