Hi:

From p.74 of "How to Own a Gun and Stay Out of Jail, CA 2008", it states that it is illegal to have a gun within 1000 ft. of a school. There is also a federal law.

Exceptions include guns in locked containers (or rifles in locked racks) transported in a vehicle for lawful purposes.

This law (within urban or suburban settings) makes it effectively necessary to carry all guns, handguns or long guns in a locked container in a vehicle, as it is virtually impossible to avoid school zones, and 1000ft. is a rather large distance.

This also makes open carry rather hazardous whether in CA or other states as well, no?

Thanks for comments.

I pass by two schools on the way and out from my home. So padlocks and cable locks are your friends.
