To all the AR owners out there I want to do a survey. Please participate...
My info.
Height-5'9
Stock-M16 style
Position-0 (shortest pull)
Hand guard- Middy
I find that the 0 setting lets me establish a better/more comfortable grip closer to the muzzle. If I mag well held. Id probably run position 1.

Great thread.
5' 11"
CTR stock
carbine gas
position 1 all the time
I have seen shorter guys running much longer lengths of pull than I do, so it'd be cool to see how people respond to this thread...

Depends on the which AR im running. On my scoped AR I use it on the longest setting as I find that most comfortable with eye relief. Its not too bad for me though with my 6'11'' wingspan.

next to the last position gives me a perfect 13" LOP
Height - 5'10"

Position - 5 (next to last)

CTR Stock
DI 16in Stag upper ( non mid)
i run it 1 position away from being full extended if im using the bipod
2 positions away if moving or supporting the rifle with my arm
6' 5" (In reality, I'm taller. Bad back and neck posture.)
6' 6" Wingspan
Vltor EMOD
ADS 14.5" pinned upper, carbine gas
I keep it at #1 for general shooting, or #4 or #5 for accurate shooting.
KAC rail system, vert grip mounted all the way forward. #1=hand on grip #4-5 hand on bottom of rail system or on magwell.
For general shooting, I have my shortest LOP with my hand on the grip for max control. But for slow accurate or bench shooting, I have the LOP at max or close to it. And have my hand on the bottom of the rail behind the grip or on the magwell.

This is a cool question. I just put mine together, so I can't say for sure yet, but at 6-2 with a big wing span I suspect I'll usually use it fully extended or about the same length as my other AR which uses an A2 stock.

6' 4" + gorilla arms
All run 1x Red dot (aimpoint or eotech)
Usually have Level IV plates and loaded carrier
Position 2 (0 being fully collapsed) works well on AR with CTR
Position 1 on Sig 556

I'd like to run in position 0 but for some reason the friction lock on my ACS doesnt work in that position...still has a little play.

I run a CTR on a milspec 6 position tube I almost always run it on the 2nd position just seems right position zero gets in the way of my ASAP plate and MS2 sling. If im shooting further out I fully extend it.

5'3 and skinny. Milspec MOE position 2 for NTCH (irons) and 3 with my cheapo scope. Dont you big guys feel un-compy on position 1?,I know the rifle looks nicer with the stock collapsed, but I dont feel compy at 0 or 1

Height: 5'6
Stock: Magpul ACS
Position: 2 (6 pos. buffer tube)
Optics: Trijicon Accupoint TR24
Hand guard: 9" Noveske Rail
Height: 5'6
Stock: Magpul CTR
Position: 6 (6 pos. buffer tube)
Optics: EOTech 512
Hand guard: 9" Noveske Rail
With the EOTech's infinite eye relief, I liked running the max length of pull with the CTR. When I switched to the ACS and Accupoint optic, I had to collapse way down, to maintain cheek weld and proper eye relief.

Standard VLTOR Modstock, 5-pos extension, Midlength gas, 16" barrel.
I inherited the traditional Judaic nose, so at 0 and 1 the charging handle impacts it in recoil. I usually keep it at position 2 for offhand, 4 on the bench.

Oh, the stocks:
Ace SOCOM M4 collapsible 7 & 1/2" to 9 & 1/2": fully extended
Ace SOCOM M4 collapsible 9 & 1/2" to 11 & 1/2": haven't installed yet
Vltor Clubfoot: 3 or 4 depending
Vltor Emod: 3 or 4 depending
Bushy 6 position: 4 or 5
If I'm sighting in or shooting off the bench, fully extended for all.
I'm 6'2" with big meat-hook hands and long arms, so the most comfortable stocks are usually the longer ones: I've had to force myself to practice with any of the stocks pushed in beyond fully-extended.

ok, here goes--
vltor emod, 5 pos. tube-
position 1- quick shooting at targets less than 25yd.
position 2- in 2pt sling, for short-midrange engagement of those deadly orange clay targets...
position 3- standing slow fire, with no sling or sling solely wrapped up in my support arm.
position 4- prone, so my right elbow is flat on the ground and doesnt start to hurt after long periods of fire.
position 5- benchrest, for smallest peep window.
im about 5'11 63/64", but it doesnt really matter, seeing as how i use all positions...

I know this is a bit of a necro-post, but I'm new to my AR and I have a CTR stock so this came up. I used to think position 4(fully collapsed as 1( was best for me, but now I've been playing with it and feel that 2/3 is better. I'll have to decide when I get out somewhere that I can stand and shoot.
My question though, is why do you guys fully extend it when shooting bench/precision? I think I'm gonna try it next time I go out and see if I can group better and get my Zero a little better.

Run full open, preset 6 I believe...ALL the way out.
Being as big a guy as I am, upways and roundways, I hate feeling like my bicep is pushing on my forearm; so the farther I can get my trigger hand forward, the better. Also, I tend to place my support hand just in front of the magazine, or a little farther forward. Just the way I do things.

Stock is at 5-6 (Basically fully extended) and VFG is as close to the mag well as could get it.
I like my arms tight against my body. I feel I can hold steadier and longer this way.
Doesn't the 0 position (fully collapsed) hurt the wrist?

Longest postion while shooting outside for the most part...if I were tactical, going indoors or in a really woodsy type enviroment, I would go shortest.
6'2"
Collapsed to position "0" for storage or transportation. Extended to max length for everything else. I try not to view the 6 position stock as "Adjustable". In any scenario that has incoming fire, it's gonna be a 2 position stock anyway. :D
Shooters remember that although most of us run average height to arm length ratio - beware.
