Spotted this somewhere and now I can't remember where. Anybody know which company offers this? I believe it was compatible with DPMS uppers.

Thanks for the quick response. Have you ever used one of these? Mostly wondering if they feed okay and if the current magazine release (bullet button) works with this setup.

Quick on the draw tomd! Looks like you answered my question too about the BB. All was not in vain.

I do like CMMG a lot, but in this case I'd vote for a Sonju G3 lower. Sonju sells matched sets that have the upper already modified.

Will mosey on over to Sonju's website and check 'em out. The idea of getting a matched upper with the lower is appealing unless its easy to modify an upper. Don't know much about this as I'm just starting to research this for my next build. G3 mags seem really cheap and plentiful.

jdhawg, check your PMs.

g3 mags are dirt cheap and yes you do have to modify the upper where there is 2 ridges to allow the mags to to work nothing a good ole dremel cant fix :)

where can you get the G3 mags?

vlsgmc, sent you a PM. I was checking out 10 round mag prices for this build and they aren't quite as good as the hicap stuff. Seem to range between 20 to 30 bucks. Maybe there are some places I haven't found yet. www.ptr91.com had a limited supply of 10-rounders for 29.99. If anybody has another source please chime in. I think another place I checked was JGS? something like that. Hicaps are 4 to 5 bucks all over the place. Found it kind of interesting on Sonju's website they have a titanium option available.... just add $7000! Yikes, that's up there in HK territory. I haven't read anywhere yet of someone actually shooting one of these other than maybe the cmmg guys. Really interested in any feed issues. Sonju's website says the magazine lips need some modification and they give you instructions on what to do. According to them its so easy a caveman can do it (exact quote). Well, I'll keep researching this if nothing for the fun of it.

CTD had G3 hi caps for 99 cents for the rest of the world

The CMMG AR Lower that takes HK mags does not have a last shot bolt hold open feature which I personally like.

The Sonju does not have LRBHO either, I believe the issue is the design of the G3 magazine. It was not created to actuate a BHO device, just as in the HK91/G3.

Hello Fellow Calgunners,

I bought a couple of the CMMG/G3 compatible lowers. They seem pretty good. I put together the lower using the DMPS ar-308 kit, and everything worked fine.

One thing to note- on both the CMMG and Sonju there is NO BOLT CATCH! That is to say, there is nothing on the lower that will lock the bolt. CMMG claims that since the original G3 rifle did not have a 'magazine catch' then theirs shouldn't have one, either. I think Sonju's thinking was along the same lines.

But I want to be able to lock your bolt open if I want to. I don't care if the magazine doesn't do it. And that's the only draw back. But, that, compared to $50/mag for AR 308 mags (cheaper than dirt, $0.99/each for G3) makes things a bit easier to swallow. If you're thinking of going down this road, don't be surprised by this little fact.

Finally, the Sonju piece might be 'fitted' to the upper but the problem is that they do not have a completed upper- you have to get the receiver, assemble it with the barrel, gas block, gas line/piston, etc. For me, that's a bit too much. So I got the CMMG lowers, and I'll either get the DMPS complete upper, or if my pocketbook can afford it, a Fulton Armory upper, which are great. POF-USA also has a nice upper with a piston actuator, but now you're talking big, big $$$.

Kind regards,

Sorry TZL - now you see what a noobie I am. Still can't pronounce Carbine right either. At least I stopped pointing guns at people and leaving my finger on the trigger. I'll get there eventually. I meant Special Purpose Cartridge.
