Why would you need a cheek weld when you're shooting from the hip?! :D

Not really sure what the solution is, but if you want to keep the more traditional wood look, then maybe have Iron Wood Designs (http://www.ironwooddesigns.com/IWDsite/IWDHome.html) custom make something for you? I've seen a Saiga around with a wood stock that had a cheek riser built in - not sure where that furniture came from though.

I heard that cover plate mounts tend to move around and not hold zero. Me myself, i got a side mount from JG sales and cut about 3/4 inch off the height and welded it back together, sprayed with flat black. No problemo.
