Do any of you have this sling with a normal front swivel instead of a front side swivel? The instructions say it works best with a side front swivel but I'm curious if it's going to work with a stock swivel like this:

I have just tried it and it isn't the best way to use it. It will make the rifle hang weird at rest. If you are plinking it really doesn't matter. If you are doing anything where you have to depend on your rifle, I wouldn't recommend it.

Makes me wonder why manufacturers still put this type of front sling attachment on uppers since none of the newer slings even work with it. Anyone know of any options for mounting a sling to the front? I have found this one http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Blue-Force-Universal-Wire-Loop-Sling-Mount-p/blue%20force%20gear%20uwl.htm

You're welcome. Sling works like a charm.

Get some para cord for 2-3 bucks and loop it through the swivel and back around the hand guard. Tie a strong knot and your set. Now just attach your sling through the loop on the para cord and your rifle hangs naturally.

Works perfectly for me. I'm cheap.

My guess is because it's milspec--the military still wants to be able to use the old 2-point web slings on their rifles for drill purposes. Civilian rifles just follow suit...

I just got a VTac 2 point and I was wondering if I could hook it up to the front swivel too. I would have done this but the front swivel mount to me doesnt seem all that sturdy, but would certianly work in the meantime until you had another way to attach it.

Check out the Universal Lamb mount made by Vtac. There are several different attachments on it so it can be used in a variety of different ways depending on the situation. The swivel attachment only moves 45 degrees or so to prevent the sling from twisting.

Be careful how you do this.

Paracord melts in contact with a hot barrel. Probably only an issue if you're doing full mag dumps, but hey.

I have a cheap $9 padded sling from Walmart, hooked to the front side sling and the tube of my stock. I typically carry the rifle in front, pointed down toward my left side. The side swivel makes it much more natural for when I go to a hasty sling position to stabilize the rifle.

The military does it on their M16s. I hate the M4 with a side sling mount while on the range. The normal sling mount helps with a comfortable sling when precision shooting. I bet drill is also part of it as someone else stated. This sling mount is useless for a 2 point sling if you want the rifle to fall comfortably.
