View Full Version : Is FDE the new BLK?

I had my Noveske N4 Sitting in my safe for weeks already. Got all the small lower parts in but still looking for the furnitures. The usual online shop I goto. The FDE Parts are on backorder. Look like FDE is IN and OD green and BLK is OUT. :D. I guess if you look at the terrain in Socal, FDE blend better also. (or atleast where I live)
So that is the color on your mind regarding you next "coler- coordinated rifle"? :D

Well, it more or less has to do with the wars of this decade and the general push to get smart about weapons camo. I'm sure if we get bogged down in a jungle fight for several years you'll start seeing green rifles.

Yep, just did my new one up in FDE, because I wanted a little variety. OD doesn't really make sense in SoCal - at least not were I shoot.

FDE has been IN or a few years now....I rarely build in any other color.

Yes, FDE is the new black for us desert people.

+1 on that. FDE is in because our forces are in the sandbox. if the US declared war on antarctica, then white would all of the sudden be the "new black."

I'm right in the middle of a FDE build right now. It's growing on me :D

I'd rather have an FDE gun than an all black one. Black is not a good camo color.

This is true!!! The FDE grew on me and I built one already and working on a second.

I just wish someone to make:

UBR
MOE Grip
Ladder rails
XTM Rails
MOE TRIGGER GUARDS
MOE Sights
Tangodown Stubby QD
Pmags

ALL IN WHITE. Been discussing that with friends for a long time...DIRTY? Of course...but who wants a *clean* rifle?!?!

Painting just doesnt do justice....now a solid white plastic/polymer would be great!!!!

That's right! Kill those penguin ba$#@rds! They deserve it!

Meanwhile, back in reality...

I am working on my first "colored" build, and I went with FDE magpul furniture and desert beige durabake for the metal. I am setting up 2 lowers for it. One with a solar tactical grip for a featureless build. I'll probably use the Krylon tan camo paint for the solar grip. The second is a Bullet Button lower that will get the magpul grip and buttstock in FDE. Since I live in socal, I'll leave it just tan for now. But I am tempter to do a few bands of OD on it just to break it up some. We'll see how it looks before I actually try that though.

I think it really depends on the user. Some go by color based on their job, personal preference, or some that's the only color available to them for that part at the time. For example you still see a lot of black ARs versus ones in FDE. The fact our guys are in two theaters where FDE definitely matches better than say OD or black, it only makes sense for more components to come in that color. I definitely don't think FDE will be replacing black, just more frequent as an option.

I like all 4 commonly found colors. I have 3 rifles in black. 1 in OD Green. I'm building one in FDE. And I'm planning one in Foliage Green.

I've been thinking about getting a FDE pistol. I have started to like the looks of it.

Well of course we now have to consider going UDE!

Larue Tactical UDE Furniture Kit (http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=251)

Crap! Now I have to build another AR.

when I was buying all my parts in may and april fde was all that was left. I wanted black but nobody had any. I kinda like fde now but would still prefer black.

Posting from my iPhone so no pics of where I shoot. But SoCal is a desert. Period. So FDE makes most sense. I just have one AR and it's black. Next one will be FDE. Has nothing to do with it being the "in color". I love the OD, but no where near enough green around this joint.

Wow! Is that Slate Grey? I personally don't think anything wrong about Grey. Nice Urban camo... But i guess The Steyr USR, the HK SL-8 and USC left a bad taste in our mouth. I know some of us prepared a BLK AUG stock for the USR when the Crime bill sunsets. I recently hacksaw the thumb hole out of the grey USR stock and it looks pretty cool :D

I like the FDE on black look. My AR pistol is my only AR to currently wear FDE though. I planned on a .22 build to be in FDE but now the spare parts all adding up to being OD, FDE, and Blk, I figure I'll make it into a multicam rifle. Sorry no pics, it's still in build phase.
