Without being marked "NHM-91 Sporter," is it cool?

Anyone have experience with this rifle?

I think the nhm is listed, basically the stamped receiver version.

The off list one is a milled receiver, heavier barrel, MAK-91. I prefer the chinese rifles because the barrels are made to last and replacement barrels are still available.;)

I have one that was written with a electro pencil and it is all matching #'s. I have another that looks engraved and it is not matching #'s. Not the standard but to give you an idea. The later imports were non matching #'s.

The milled one is marked like this..

I'll get my other one back soon. It was rebarrel and tricked out! Heard it shoots awesome by the builder. :D

Norinco NHM 91 is a listed rifle:

If there were ever two things that are mutually exclusive, it's "AK" and "National Match."

Anyone else care to weigh in on the subject?

I may be accused of already knowing the answer to this, but since the difference between listed and unlisted can be razor-thin, I copied this from the AG's website:

Made in China
*AK
*AKM
*AKS
*AK47
*56
*56S
*84S
*86S

Norinco
AK-47 (all)
Hunter Rifle
NHM 90, 90-2, 91 Sport
RPK Rifle
*56
*56 S
81 S (all)
*84 S
86 (all)
*86 S
MAK 90

Perhaps the thing I'm most interested in is who would be willing to get one of these, regardless of how well made other AKs are, etc. Essentially, what do people rate the "risk factor" on the MAK-91? Is it like the 6940 Colt?

I guess the dilemma I'm faced with here is that the NHM-91 is listed, while the MAK-91 is not--at least not as I read it.

Does that seem to be more of a wishful thinking type of proposition, or do you feel that this is substantive/protective?

Sheit...if you ask me, Not listed is not listed.

Alright, alright, that's what I thought, too. :)

But there's a lot of people who think that the gun IS listed, so I wanted to ask here, in an open forum, to clear it up.

It sounds like some here do not realize the NHM-91 and the MAK-91 are two different rifles with slightly different features.

I've owned both (and since sold them) and the MAK-91 is a very nice AK. As far as I know it's still legal in CA.

NHM was only made as a stamped receiver. Markings are different.

On the National Match mak-91 the barrel is thicker than on the nhm. It is only made with a milled receiver. Marked NM before the serial #'s also marked National Match. The bipods are different in design and fitting between the NHM and Mak 91 because of barrel thickness. Since the Mak91 has the thickest barrel ever imported on a chinese gun it has special hand guards that are fitted. The wood handguard from a nhm or other chinese rifle won't fit as is.
