I noticed that on many of the governor's vetos today, he writes with a somewhat common theme. That is, he often explains the law is redundant with some other law, or costs too much for the state, including loss of revenue. Hopefully, it will be seen that AB962 can do all of this. He mentioned loss of revenue just for SB585, and that was just for the Cow Palace.

Trying to remain optmistic.

Arnold has about 56 minutes to kill this thing, if he has not already. No news at midnight may not mean much as it takes time for any action to be announced. I mean so far all they have announced is less than 200 bills, and am sure many more are already done one way or the other.

Still, keep calling.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued the following statement regarding negotiations on a legislative water package:

“Over the past few days we have made enough progress in our negotiations that I am calling a special session on water. While we still have a few remaining issues to work out, I commend the legislative leaders for their focus and commitment to solving this crisis and I will weigh all the bills on their merits.”

California Bans Dairy Cow Tail Docking

CALIFORNIA, US - A bill to ban "docking" the tails of dairy cows in California was passed by the state Senate Tuesday on a 25-12 vote.

State Sen. Dean Florez, D-Shafter, the author of Senate Bill 135, hailed the vote as a significant victory for animal welfare, reports ChicoER.

However, a dairy industry official said the matter wasn't very important because very few dairies still employ the practice.

According to ChicoER, Florez said eliminating tail-docking has been a priority for the Humane Society of the United States, which sponsored the legislation.

According to a legislative analysis of the bill, tail docking involves removing one third to two thirds of a cow's tail. It has been done to make it easier for people to work around dairy cows, to help keep cows' udders clean and to improve milk quality. But studies show there really aren't significant advantages to the practice, the analysis cited.

TheCattleSite News Desk

Doesn't matter too much, I never even knew the practice existed to tell you the truth. Dog, lamb, pig and goat tails I was aware of but cows is a little different. Just more wasted tax dollars on another stupid law.
