arsenal sgl (not slg) series sgl-20/21 in 7.62x39 or sgl-31 in 5.45x39. both made in russia with 922r compliance parts. also arsenal milled ak's sam series are excellent quality as well and very well built.

after you build one, you are the best builder. the homebuilder takes more care than manufacteres

The highest quality I've ever felt in an AK has been in a Milled Arsenal SA-M7. The action seemed like it was on bearings!

They are called Saigas (http://www.raacfirearms.com/). ;)

RAA saigas. You can own them legally, from russia and a very well made AK for 400 dollars. Not to mention detachable mags makes it worth it.

A buddy was telling me Lancaster was very good. Any input on them.

I think Lancaster make good guns, but there may be a few member who don't share the same sentiment. IIRC there was a member here complaining about Lancaster. I forget if it was about the build quality or the wait.

I remember seeing those finnish ak`s back in the late 70`s. seems nobody wanted them because they didn`t look like the typical russian ak, plus back then ak ammo was kinda expensive and hard to find. how time changed a little while later!

From what you can get her in CA, Milled arsonal, saiga, vector come to mind. Sure there are tons of others. If you are looking for the best, the Romy G kits aren't on the top shelf. They were a great bang for the buck at the time but you are looking for high end so Russain, Bulgy or Yugo parts kits are it.

InRange of Tennesee builds a very nice AK.

IMO , the best 7.62x39 civilianized military service rifle is the D-Technic VZ58 from the Czech Republic. CzechPoint USA sells them in this country.

Kinda like an AK -- only better.

I've heard very good things about the Saiga based Arsenal AK's, where Arsenal just basically does a full on conversion.

Well we've SOLD tons....FIRED a lot of AKs on the market....

ARSENAL...

Followed by a CWS made AK, Lancaster, AZEX(no longer made).....

Most Lancasters all have US made barrels....

The ol WASR-10 still will work for most peeps....;)

I think Henderson Defense dominates the 'medium priced' AK-47 market in regards to quality. I currently own (5) HD AK-47's and I love them all. Top quality rifle for sure (for a stamped AK).

If money is no option, def. go with a Milled Russian variant or a Arsenal

i guess i made a mistake the vz is shipped with the bb installed i'm not sure why turners has their version with the pinned mag instead of a bb? anyone know. i think the vz is a great rifle someday i'l get one!

The CZ'z i've seen have the mag latches cut off.

I really like my stamped Vector AK, the receiver was made by Elk River Tool and Die. It's a really smooth shooter for an AK.

The rifles we sell on our website possess the mag catch/release that uses a tool. See pic below.

The rifles Turner's sells uses a magazine block (the block does not release the mag). The block, as well as the California magazine catch, can be easily swapped out for the original. Just takes the removal of two pins - easily done in a few minutes.

Seriously, they are all "just AKs". The beauty of AKs is that they work no matter what. The "best one" doesn't work any better than "the average one". It may look nicer, the action may feel smoother to you but, when all is said and done, they all will work the same! No AK will ever win a percission rifle match so, why worry about the difference between one that shoots 2 moa and one that shoots 3moa? I really believe the "best" one would be the one that you have when you need it.

+1

I'd have to say a good AK is the one that can shoot with consistency, regardless of 2 MOA or 4MOA.

Without precision, I'd look for consistency and reliability. If it does not shoot consistently, go build another one. :D

the biggest complaint VZ owners have is "it doesn't take AK mags, boo hoo", but you'll have a pinned mag and it has a stripper clip guide. it's better than an AK, you'll want to make sexy time with it.

Correct. We'll ship original magazine releases to other states, but not to California.
