There were a couple of reports that a vendor had some rare Howa M1 Carbines for sale at the Knob Creek shoot. Here's some solid historical info on the guns. Very limited numbers of these ever got to the US before the Clintons blocked further imports...
The story surprised me.

It looks like the Old Sacramento Armory was able to import a few thousand.
Other M1 Carbine imports from Europe were also blocked by the Clintons -- in ways that prolly would never stand up in court today.
The site looks like it might have The Carbine Club's fingerprints on it.

Another piece of the puzzle:
www.usarmamentcorp.com/other_products.html

Scroll down the page to just under " Title 1 " .

The vendor info states , "...produced in 1966 for Taiwan Police..."
There may be some confusion between Thailand and Taiwan.
People who saw the guns at Knob Creek seem to think they had the Thai crest on the recievers.
