Hey all Im just about finishing up with my AR45 lower reciever. I still have some holes to drill and some sanding time with a dremmel to smooth out some ridges etc but it looks like its comming along really well and for my first lower i dont think its half bad. Now i just need to decide if i should build a pistol or a rifle??? hmmmm :D

I pose another question. Who does the best type3 hardcoat anno in the bay area?

Nice work tommyid1! Welcome to the darkside!
Why not just build one of each, that's what I did (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=196081) :D
Dunno about Bay Area shops but US Ano does great work. There is contact info for Victor (I think that's his name there) over at CNCGuns forum, lots of folks have used USA. They have the appropriate FFL to work on lowers. They will require it to be marked in some unique way for their own ability to keep track of the piece, but it does not have to be a conventional S/N if you don't want it to be.

heres some more pics. its pretty much done i just need to drill the bolt hold open rollpin hole and the grip screw hole. I also need to get rid of the shelf in the mawell then get it blasted and off to anno. Hey goober how did you go about removing that shelf in the magwell?

Just curious do you have to use a .308 buffer and spring because of the added weight of the .45 ACP round?

1/4" endmill, matches 1/8" radii in corners
easy even w/ a DP :D

I use the Hahn pistol buffer.
It's about 8 oz and ~1/2" longer than a standard CAR buffer.
I started off with a Wolff XP spring, but swapped back to the standard carbine spring after some testing.
Runs perfect with the heavy buffer and standard spring.

UPDATE
finally got around to finishing up the lower. I had it cerakoted coyote tan and will have matching furniture and an upper in the next month or so. i had kns pins for it but the b16 wont allow me to use them. it will have a two tone miad set on there and a winter trigger guard when it comes in. this rifle is going to be saweeeeeeeet.
HUGE thanks to todd powers at phantom finishing. he did a fantastic job on the finish!

nice work! :)
good call on the B16, it's the best solution i've found for this style of mag release.
you're gonna love shooting this thing.
big, fat, sloooow, bullets :D
LMK if you need GG mag plugs (http://www.cncguns.com/forum/index.php?topic=617.0) to make 10/30's or shorter mags or whatever.

Are you going to have the upper finished the same? what are the legalities with making one. Did you have to get a license from atf? I assume it has no serial number?

Can you explain the mag release? I've never seen one like this.

it (and the entire AR45 design) is by Justin at CNC Gunsmithing. Tango Chaser contributed to the initial AR45 development and JFettig the mag release itself.
the AR45 uses M3 Grease Gun mags.
the notch for the mag catch on GG mags is on the mag release button side rather than the opposite as on regular AR mags, so the standard catch design will not work.
the AR45 catch pivots like a lever instead of moving like a plunger.
the catch and button are a single piece unlike the standard design.
because of these differences, the common BB designs won't work. but the B16 will.
