20mm, anything less and you're not even trying. In fact I can duel wield these for maximum firepower. Its just about perfect for CQB all the way up to 3000 yards. At close range the muzzle blast will simply vaporize the zombie. I dont even have to really aim. At the distance the HE shells cause massive critical damage to zombies no matter where I hit them. I can aim for the little toe and still obliterate zombies with my massive firepower.

I mostly agree with J Rock. I believe that the 20mm should be in an AR platform driven by a PISTON because they are so damn reliable unlike DIs and totally super cool.

I think that anything in a rifle platform will be sufficient. Shot placement is key in killing zombies and if you are good with a .22lr, 9mm carbine, .223, .308, etc, then thats good enough if you can put the rounds in the right place.

Now that I think about it, we may have to worry about overpenetration since we dont want our rounds accidentally hitting any good guys, especially after blasting through a zombie and having the possibility of infecting a good guy. Perhaps .223/5.56 is a good choice if we can get **** tons of it.

Now are we talking disease infected zombies that go down like rabid humans or are we talking the true cursed undead that only go down with a brain splat?

Either way a 5.56/.223 carbine with a Remmy 870 for those sadisticly satisfiying head vaporizations. And maybe a .45 just in case. What would be nice in the above situation is a SPAS 12 with a drum mag. There is nothing more relaxing then killing zombies.

bigcalidave
10-09-2009, 2:45 PM
Would you really bet your life on it though? Lets say you are searching a burned out warehouse for food. It's dark, all you have is a ruger 10/22 and a surefire flashlight, no NVGs cause the batteries ran out weeks ago. You see a walk in freezer and think, if I was trying to stash food, that might be a good spot because rodents and other pests would have a hard time getting in there. You open the door only to be confronted by 25 walkers that bum rush you. With a 22 in this situation I would say you are as good as F'd. If you hit anywhere besides the brain, they wont be slowed down at all. Keep in mind you are running from this hoard so you cant sit there and choose your shots. I think this is a relatively realistic situation. :D In this case, you would need something larger to at least slow them down.

Close the door... ?
Zombies and door handles don't mix.
a .22 must ALWAYS be with you, if you are stuck up in a tree with a 500rd pack of .22 and 500 zombies, you win.

10\22 for sure. 1 shot to the head is all that's needed. You don't want to make alot of noise and attract more zombies. .22lr subsonic is very quiet plus you can easily carry 500 rounds or more.

What's a good quality 5.56 drum mag rebuild kit for my featureless build AR?

dansgold
10-10-2009, 4:24 PM
A P90 or PS90 seems optimal, paired with the Five-Seven sidearm. This assumes you buy your ammo well in advance, of course.

In each case you get big magazine capacity paired with very effective lightweight rounds.

If you plan on scrounging ammo after the balloon goes up, a Glock 17 paired with a mag-compatible 9mm carbine rifle seems like the way to go.

I agree with the .22 LR because you have to hit them in the head anyway. A .22 will put them down and scramble their brains just as well as a .223. You can carry a heck of a lot more ammo too. I don't think I would be badly armed during the Zombie Apocalypse if I had my Colt/Walther M4 .22 and a few loaded mags. CCI Mini Mag hollow points would definitely do the trick.

i think they call that "manufacturing."

but hell, seeing as how we are talking about zombie apocalypse anyways, i think the beta mags are probably the best. since they distribute the weight evenly.

Not that I would care about felonies in the presence of zombies, but I think if you don't end up with more 11+ capacity mags than you started with, its called rebuilding.

Anyone else vouch for the beta mags? Others mags?

You are correct on the letter of the law.

As long as you can show a logical progression of replacement parts from your existing 10+ magazine, to whatever you end up with, then you are legal.

California doesn't have any "large capacity" magazine tiers or levels. It either is a large capacity magazine or it isn't.

Another thought, Bill Weise mentioned that a Saiga .410 gauge with a rifled barrel makes a really neat semi-auto .45-70.

So if you really want an AK instead of an AR, that's about as close as you can get to .458 SOCOM.

Ruger 10/22 with folding stock
machete of some sort or a crowbar

head for the mountains with as much food/water/ammo as I can carry
