My and my buddy want to go out and shoot each or our sks but do not want to pay the ridiculous price for non steel jacketed ammo and the local range FPRC will not let us shoot the ammo because the use the magnet test. So my question is does anyone know a place to go shoot with in an hour to an hour and half of us. We want to go shooting for the day and then camp over night. Any places that you know of would be greatly appreciated, we are not looking to hunt just go out and try out our new rifles.

Sum Mountain Gun Club in Oakhurst.

Private shooting stalls, picnic tables, and best of all no Ammo Gestapo.

Worth the drive.

Mariposa Fish and Game Range is also an option. It a bit further though. 2hrs. Sun Mountain is the closest place I know about. Might be someplace south of town, but I live north, so not sure.

I just shoot in my backyard. :chris:

I always thought you were in Bakersfield because of your avatar.

Might try the Lemoore Sportsmans Club. Four ranges, 25yd, 25/50, 50, 100yd.

Dues are $80.00 per year, no daily fees. Only restriction is paper only, no steel targets. They provide wooden taget frames. Shooting times are sunrise to sunset.

Camping is allowed in an area near the ranges.

That's where I go.

Good peeps. That range gets reserved a lot for PD and National Guard, though. So call ahead.

South of downtown where all the tracks meet. Just wait for a train to go by.

Fresno's about two hours from the Panoche BLM shooting spot.

There are no amenities, but there are also few rules. You can shoot steel ammo, steel targets, tannerite, just about anything. Just don't start a fire.
