What kind of accuracy or precision do you get out of your AK or Saiga with surplus 5.45x39 rounds ?

Please indicate range/distance if you have group size.

I just popped the cheri on my 5.45 x 39 Saiga over the weekend. I shot 13 rds from 50 yards to determine how far the sights were off and was pleased w/ the results:

4 fell in the Bullseye
1 in the 9 ring
and the balance in the 10.

This was using surplus corrosive early 80's from a spam can as well as a few sand bags to support the rifle.

Hope this helps....

AK-47/74 ia capable of hitting men size targets at 400-500 meeters with iron sights. The rear sights are graduatet to 800-1000 meters, but at this distance it is hard to hit even armored vehicle target. My AKs average 2.5-3 inch groups at 100 yards.

Well with non-surp 5.45 I hit a rabbit at 200yds with iron sights. 74s are known to be decently accurate, Id say that they are no worse than 3 MOA and that is being VERY hard on the 5.45.

I just shot my 5.45 saiga last Friday, don't know the grouping but I was hitting steel targets at 300 yards with corrosive ammo, no problem with accuracy.

That's pretty close to 223 on AR. :D

I have both an AR and Saiga 5.45 and I think that they are equally accurate, saiga isn't only reliable and accurate but way more affordable than an AR. Not to mention, the 5.45x39 does nasty damage, it's not called the poison bullet for nothin'. Do yourself a favor and get a saiga!! Ammo is really cheap too.

That's nice to be able to use AK mags without mods. It's about time Saiga putting more value into their rifles. :D

My Bulgy 74 groups 3-6 inches while bench rested at the 100 yd targets using surplus. This is with Iron sights. Out of the box it was hitting level but about a foot to the right, had to drift it in.

Looking forward to picking up a Saiga 5.45.
