i need to get a replacement pin, the one that holds the firing pin in the bolt carrier. but my question is, is the current one unsafe? i want to shoot this rifle tomorrow, without having to swap pins around.. it seems like it's good for one more trip, but i dont have decades of experience in ar15's, so i thought id defer to the pros... here is the photo.

As long as its not broken in two it should work fine. Ive never seen a cotter pin bent that badly, I would just replace it since it looks like it might shear in the near future.

there is nothing wrong with it, the fuction on that pin is only to stop the firing pin to fall off or come off, fix it as i can see it only bent a bit straighten it a bit and your good to go..

its all chewed up from the firing pin hitting it. but i figured it would be fine for another outing or two...

Replace it, that pin is ready to go at anytime.

You don't want to be digging a broken piece out of the action. You should
also check the gas rings while your at it.
