I have searched the Interweb and have a general idea on this serial number but I am still somewhat confused on the date.

The serial number consists of a triangle (no arrow) followed by ...

1981S-AH1969

I am assuming this is a 1981 kit but wanted to make sure. Does the "S" or the "AH" have any significance?

Thanks in advance..

Thanks for the links. Unfortunately I signed up over a week ago and they have not approved my registration yet. Not sure what is going on but I have heard this same thing from several people.

You have a Romanian 1981. Arrow with no feathers on early ones. Romanians started in 1962 or 63. They had the arrow up till 72 or 75 maybe later.. 80's no arrow.

Romy G i think, my kit is also no arrow, 1981S-AJ1299. I don't think the 1969 on yours refers to a year, and the AH i think is a factory, but I am definately not sure

With feathers is strictly Russian! That is a triangle with a complete arrow.
Triange with arrow head is Romanian

I have a 1980 that has the arrow head inside the triangle.

Here try this link (http://www.ak-47.us/AK47_Factories.php#sadu) for your knowledge..

Thanks Fredie..

OMG either Mikhail is a pretty short dude or this gal is an amazon.

"1981" - Year of production
"S" - Semi-auto sear
"AH1969" - Serial number

The serial numbers started at AA0001 they progressed through AA9999 then started with AB0001 ect.

I have seen many kits with the "AH" serial number prefix. Most were "new" when demillied rifles

Romanians did use feathered arrows on their 74 bayonets.;)

Image 2: This close-up view shows several unique features of the Romanian AK-74 bayonet, to include the "last four" digit serial number done with a mechanical engraver, green textile belt hanger strap, mold numbers, and the crudely formed arsenal code. While very close to the Soviet "Arrow-In-Triangle" design, the shape is different and unique to itself. Bakelite is dark, matte in finished texture, and rough to the touch compared to other countries. It also has a characteristic dark marbling.

I can never open this site. Does it has issues with Firefox ??

The site works for me, it's just the link that is broken but I posted it anyway for reference. Search "Romanian 74 bayonet" to get the same link it's not working right now but you can pull up the cache for the page- (info but pics don't show). The page will probably get fixed later on, it was working last week. I happen to have such bayonet.:)
