I read this article on the NYTImes today, and it just screamed "useful for advancing gun rights/CCW" to me.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/02/us/02brfs-REPORTONCRIM_BRF.html?ref=us

Disabled people are 1.5 times as likely to be victims of violent crime as nondisabled people, according to a study by the Justice Department. The study, which looked at 2007 cases, found that people 12 or older with disabilities were the target of about 716,000 nonfatal violent crimes, including rape and robbery. The violent crime rate was 32 per 1,000 for disabled people 12 or older, compared with 21 per 1,000 for the nondisabled, the study said.

Anyone else think this could be a potential goldmine for advancing/ building a coalition around CCW?

This saddens but doesn't surprise me. Anyone who would do this to a disabled person deserves the most severe penalty imaginable.

Always heard this- never seen statistics.

Same with *old* people too. Probably a higher risk than disabled. No stats on that- would like to see them too.

Our own Stumpy/Roy V. is a plaintiff. Good summary in this filing (http://www.hoffmang.com/firearms/pena/MSJ-2009-09-02/14-24.pdf).

Eh so far my being disabled hasn't done squat in to getting me a CCW. I love my ambi H&K...although I still have to have the safety switched to the other side.

No individual should be "special" under the law. The penalty for attacking a young, strong, hale white man should be exactly the same for attacking a frail, elderly, handicapped black woman in a wheelchair.

Ok ,you want CCW ?
Soccer Moms , Nurses, the elderly and/or the disabled. They are the most vulnerable and the most likely to want CCW. This is where we start .With those groups on board ,we WILL win.
They are also the LEAST likely to commit a crime while armed .
