Ok, so my folder project is pretty much done.
Figured I start a new thread to show it.

I recently added the Millett mount that replaces the rear sight, and a Millett 30mm red dot with 5 moa dot.

The mount is rock solid, but hasn't been adjusted at all yet and sits slightly cocked to the right.

The cheek rest works ok, but still feels a bit awkward.

Still hasn't been shot, zeroed, etc, but will be getting out next weekend to put a few hundred Barnaul through.

How easy is the Millett mount to take off and put back on?

That looks real good. It would look even better with a krinkov muzzle brake.

Interesting, that's what I wanted to get. Let us know how it shoots.

Is there a reason to pick a a 5 MOA dot over a 1MOA one? Is it better to see that far up front? I could imagine it gets hard to aim when such a dot covers 5 inches at 100 yards (or 2.5 at 50).

Easy, except you do have to remove the scope and rings first to get to the 2 allen screws at the rear that hold the mount in.

Millet sells 3 models of their red dots:

SP1 - 1" tube with 3 moa dot
SP2 - 30mm tube with 5 moa dot
Multidot - 30mm with 3, 5 and 10 moa dots

I opted for the SP2 for the larger field of view over the 1", and didn't want to pay another $70 for the multidot.

I figure this is for fast, rough target aquisition. I mean, can an old Yugo 59 even hit better than 5 moa at 100 yards in the first place? Well, that's how I rationalized the larger dot.

I've thought that if I wanted to dump more money into this project, I could remove the front sight and bayo mount, chop the barrel, and add a muzzle brake, all while very carefully staying legal length in CA.

Very very cool!!!http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Please update us when you shoot it, I'm wondering how reliable those 10 rd. aftermarket mags are. Is the cheek rest really needed with that Choate folder?

How's the weight of the whole package? Would you say more than a stock M59? Less? About the same?

I'm thinking of doing my M59 like your's, but I may just wait for a SU-16, I like the light weight of the SU-16 I held at a gun shop.
