hey there,

is it true that shooting heavy ball through the svt40 will damage it?

i've been looking at it seems nearly impossible to find any non-commercial ammo that is

a) light ball
b) non magnetic
c) surplus and not north of 12 bucks a box.

tips?

If you have a tin of heavy ball, I will be willing to trade you a tin of light ball. Let me know.

The svt 40's gas adjustable gas system allows for the use of various typs of ammo. Just use the lowest setting that still cycles the action. I shoot that
80's yugo stuff all the time, I have it set so it drops the brass on the table 1 foot away.

You must live in a closet then. You can fit a minimal single stage press set up on a table the size of a night stand.

Don't be mad just because you live in an outhouse and don't know anything about reloading. Here's the press I was talking about:

Look, it even has a nifty pole for you to sit on since you're so short on space;)

Yeah, finding ammo for a PSL that is CA friendly is a PITA. I think the cheap wolf stuff is magnetic so I'd go for the Prvi (or Wolf Gold which I think is just reboxed Prvi).

On my SVT40, I just adjusted the gas flow down.

Hehe, just a little friendly ribbing:)

But yeah, the Prvi stuff at Aim Surplus is good. That's actually the brand I buy for reloading 7.62x54R. Every once in a while Grafs sells Prvi brass and plane jane .311" bullets so I buy 1k each and it last me a good year.

yes, Prvi and Wolf Gold are one and the same. as for light ball ammo, check sportsmans guide, CTD, SGN, there's always light ball for sale, just have to watch for the non-magnetic stuff as it's a bit rare. i shoot in the middle of nowhere so i don't worry about such things.
