Im looking to buy a .40 ar upper for home defence. My wife cant use the shotgun, my sig is too big for her hands and the 22lr rifle is underpowered.
I have shot a MP5 in 10mm and the recoil was nill. how dose the recoil feel on a .40 ar? I dont want a 9mm ar.

Does that even exist?

You might just want to try for the 10mm upper. It's more versatile than the .40 and does well in a carbine.

If you want something cheap to shoot that can also do HD the 9mm is a good idea.

Why not a 9mm upper? Cheaper ammo. Readily available.

I don't think anyone makes a kit for a 40 caliber.

Quite pricey at $721 MSRP.

The 9mm upper is more readily available through manufacturers such as RRA and CMMG.

Yeah, I've got one of the Olympic Arms .40s&w conversions....
Negligible recoil. Magazine availability would be an issue unless you modify their mag conversion to only hold 10rnds.

I know somebody that's got a .50ae Tromix conversion for sale... :D
Already has the mag conversions included too.
Recoil is a bit heavy though.:o

I own the 40S&W, 45ACP, 9mm and 10mm Oly uppers for my AR's. The mags are the real issues with everything but the 9mm. Running sten gun mags in the 9mm system is the real winner of the bunch IMO. I have a BAZ lower to shoot 45ACP with grease gun mags. Its prety nice too, but spendy.

If you want the best of all worlds, I would check out the folks over at MGI. They offer a pistol caliber system that uses Glock mags. Its the way to go IMO if you haven't already invested in an alternate system. I have one of their stripped lowers ready to go for a project in the works...
