For mid, go BCM, Sabre, CMMG. CMMG's are a good value. I was once a middy guy, but I'm back to carbine. I have had good luck with Mark's Armory for CMMG stuff.

You guys are also forgetting Noveske and Centurion, who also happen to use the same barrel blanks.

And are priced much higher than what the OP had in mind with the uppers he posted...
who also happen to use the same barrel blanks.

Depending on configuration...and model.

My Centurion barrel plus the ASA upper was pretty expensive. But a Centurion plus a regular upper would be the same as the cheapest link. Even with the handguards it would be little more than the cheapest link.

Got a link? The only Mid 16 in upper on their site is $1,250 (but thats complete + rail)

And the Hammer forged stuff says "Coming soon". Every thing else I can find is GB or ARF.

For $1250 an upper you can pretty much get a complete Daniel D Rifle and not really sacrifice quality as far as the upper and components go.

I like Mids but rifle length is ultra soft also..easy way to tell is Carbine gas has 7 inch hgs and Mids have 9 inch HGs

For $1250, might as well kick in a little more and get a gas piston.

No question about the quality, but do you really want to be in this upper for $1300 after sights, BCG, and charging handle? You can buy a Noveske Recce Low Profile w/MUR, Troy sights, and FA BCG for that. Or, get an Addax GPU.

You wont regret it...just don't forget that you still need BCG and charging handle. If it adds up to too much for you, get one without the rail, you can always add a rail later.

No one ever regrets going with a BCM upper.

i already have a scope im going to mount, so i wont be needing sights. what buffer should i go with? h h2 h3? it should be around 1200 for everything to complete except lower buying everything from bcm.

What would be your main purpose in mind for this rifle? Do you have access to any ones you can try out? Scoped, red dot, and iorns all have a different
flavor on the range. I personally prefer iorns because it is more challenging but I'm not competing or having anyone shooting back at me. If your not sure I would recommend a basic upper with a front sight and then upgrade from there when you feel limited by your gear.

varmiter/home deffense/zombie slayer a little bit of everything i guess. ill be using either a red dot or maybe a 3x9 scope

For more accuracy I believe this
http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-SS410-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-mid16%20ss410%20ddl12.htm

or this

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-BFH-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Daniel-p/bcm-urg-mid-16%20bfh%20ddl12.htm

would give you better satisfaction. Paul from Bravo says his hammer forged would be on par with Noveske's.
I'm not sure but I read somewhere they both come from FN. I can't verify it though.

DO NOT run anything more than a H buffer on that Midlength. Not necessary, in fact, standard buffer is fine on a midlength. Carbine is a diff story, I love running a 5.2oz Colt 9mm buffer on my 5.56 carbine.

one more question...if i understand correctly headspace is the measurement between face of bolt and face of barrel. if i am to buy the bcm upper which doesnt include bcg will i be able to install the bolt and still have correct headspacing?

technique

Yes, both are new products. You won't need to worry.

There is a lot of "buzz" in cyberland about headspace, but if you buy good quality name brand products, and everything is new, it's not even worth thinking about. Finding a BCM upper, or other good maker's upper that does not headspace correctly with a new high quality bolt, well, is kind of like spotting Bigfoot.

neither of those links are for mids.

I had a DPMS upper and was perfectly happy with it. It was reliable and shot pretty impressive groups for a stock carbine with PMC ammo. I traded it to another CG-er and haven't heard any complaints from him. Of course, YMMV. Not denying that anyone might be having problems with theirs, just saying that mine was totally satisfactory.

DPMS to my knowledge does not make any mids like the OP is looking for....so he should not be looking for one with them...

In comparison with what you get with other manufacturers in the same price range...DPMSs features are not up to par. I don't doubt it will shoot.
