14.5 millimeter version would be Cali legal, I believe , since it's 0.57 inches, below 0.60 threshold.

Then 20mm wouldn't be, but the 20-50 would, assuming it is a 20mm necked down to .50.

the 14.5mm would be CA legal, but depending on what 14.5mm version it is, it may be a federal DD, and need the $200 tax stamp. 14.5mm JDJ, basically a .50BMG necked up to 14.5mm is DD-exempt federally. 14.5mm Russian is considered a DD federally.

I have thought about backing a t-shirt that says "YES, I am compensating!!" for range trips with the BMG.

But if that is the case, what does my ownership of a NAA mini indicate

The Anzio 20mm is a Federally controlled NFA "destructive device".

Basically, they're illegal in all 50 states without the proper NFA paperwork, which means a $200 stamp.

In CA, you can get a DD stamp pretty easily for any bore between .50-.60 because CA doesn't start regulating DD's until .60cal.

After .60cal (which the 20mm definitely is greater than) CA requires you to get a permit from the DoJ. ATF will not approve your stamp until you get that permit. That permit is only good for 1-year and is "may issue". Unless you have a really good reason for it, you don't get one. Period.

So, while they are legal in CA with the right paperwork, in practice they are illegal.

The best part is the suppressor he makes for it :)
