Some AK's have springs and some AK's have floating firing pins.

Both my AK's have floating firing pins (along with my AR) and I've never experienced a slamfire. No biggie.

They're able to keep costs down by not including that $.04 spring.

Most pistols have springs keeping the firing pin retracted.

To the best of my knowledge, all civilian AK's have free floating FP's. Only the Chinese AKs have the spring loaded FP's. I believe you can retrofit.

Not all Chinese AKs have SLFPs..only the Polytech Legends. Standard MAK90s are Free floating pins. Awhile back KVAR had some Bulgarian SLFPs for sale. Been out of stock for awhile. Would like one for my SLR-95.

thus the caution of not using soft primer, civilian ammo. on new builds it's imperative to make sure no cosmo lives there.

My Norinco BWK 92 has a spring loaded firing pin.

I also have a Saiga .223 and it does have a spring loaded firing pin. Weird.

Doesn't surprise me, most will shoot American made 223/556, softer primers.

My Norinco BWK 92 has a spring loaded firing pin.

That's good to know. Best of my knowledge only the Legends had them.

Does your receiver have a Factory # stamp mark on it?
Wonder if it came from the Polytech Factory.

If you're referring to the "386" stamp indicating production from Polytech, no it doesn't have it. Only the model "BWK-92, the importer, the serial number, and "made by Norinco in China". My friend has a MAK 91 (off list) with a "386" stamp. I'll ask him if it has a spring loaded FP.

I heard some of the NDM-86s didn't for a while...was apparently a rather large slamfire hazard with non-military ammo.

None of the Chinese 308 Dragunovs came with SLPFs.

I had mine retrofitted by... AKEXPERT?? over @ ak-47.net about 6 years ago.

My Legends are also MAK 91s w/ Chinese letters engraved on the rear of the receiver, 21in Heavy barrels.

Hey guess what? While rotating my AK's around in the safe I pulled out the Russian .308 Saigas, and what do ya know know, they have spring loaded firing pins.
