I need something for trips to the range, hunting and road trips. I'd like something that holds extra mags and maybe a few other accessories. Something with backpack type straps would be awesome. I definitely want one with internal straps to keep the rifle from sliding around and enough padding to protect my scope.

The rifle is a 16" with a 3-9x scope and telescoping stock, so I don't need something big and a snug fit would really be best. I have no idea what to expect to spend for a quality case, but I want something that will last. I'd like to keep it around $100, but I'm open to any suggestions.

Eagle Industries is one of the best, but may not be cheap.

5.11 makes good stuff, should be good enough for you.

Cheap, cheap solution... there is always Uncle Mike's.

I was hoping for a specific case you may have personal experience with.

Creedmoor Sports AR-15 Service Rifle case.

Excellent quality. Personal Review (http://www.inlandshooters.net/index.php?contentid=49)

Not sure if it will fit your scoped AR. It should, but you may want make sure by calling Creedmoor.

As much as I dislike CTD for their discriminatory policies on shipping anything tacticool to us, I have to say their soft cases are the best bang for the buck of any I own, and I own some expensive ones.

I think Voodoo soft case will fit your bill. I just picked one up last week and it's was money well spent. No more lugging around separate rifle cases and range bags out to the range, now I need to get one for my 20" guns.

It comes with backpack straps, shoulder strap and standard handle so you can carry it comfortably in any situation. It's fully padded and carries two rifles separated with padded diver and secures them with velcro strap plus pockets at each end to secure muzzle/stock. Also has separate compartment with two padded pockets for handguns, one large compartment for accessories, two additional deep pockets for ammo and magazines, plenty of external webs for anything you might want to clip on. It has ample amount of padding to protect the guns and other contents but not so much to make it too bulky. And it's less than $100.

Get one. You'll like it:)

I have an assortment of soft cases, and for value, it's really hard to beat the CTD MOLLE cases listed above. They're bulky, but have a ton of storage and are very well protected. You may get either Voodoo or Condor, depending on what they pull from the shelf (they won't let you specify). The Voodoo has better backpack straps (the Condor only has a single strap), while the Condor has more adjustable external compartments.

I also have an Eagle RC-4108, and it's a great piece of gear, with a sturdier feeling zipper than the CTD cases. Eagle has them on sale now, and it's probably just under $100 shipped. The storage isn't as good as the MOLLE style cases, though.

As a budget guy, if I wanted a cheap and useful case with lots of storage and padding, I'd get a CTD MOLLE case. If I wanted to be sure I got the features I wanted (like the 2 backpack straps) and didn't mind spending a little more, I'd go for the Voodoo from their website.

CTD looks like the way to go. Honestly, the backpack straps aren't that big a deal, just nice in case. Realistically, if I am ever going that far with my AR, I'll probably have a ruck too, or at least a camelback. Thanks for the input guys.

You didn't mention your budget... i wasn't going to spend my time hunting those specific models out for you... if you are totally not in that price range...

Eagle Industries is one of the best, but may not be cheap.

-$100+ option-

I have the Magpul/Noveske version, this is discreet, fits 2 guns, or 1 complete and 1 upper... plus tons of magazines and accesssorices, great for AR M4 as well as AR SPR.... AR10 etc..

I also have this one, a little longer than the one above, good for SPR, and maybe bringing your rod to the range

This is probably my fav one that i like to use. But you do have to break the rifle up.
> Laure's Covert Case, 26" long only....

5.11 makes good stuff, should be good enough for you.

-just under $100 option-

I have a couple of these.... the long(52") one is REALLY long, not good for ARs, but great for bolt rifles.... the 42" and 36" are great for ARs... they have double version that has a divider in between... GREAT for ARs... and GREAT for putting inside a pelican (you can take out the foam)....

Cheap, cheap solution... there is always Uncle Mike's.

-$30 option-

The Medium(shorter one) Case #5212-1 is JUST enough to pack in a M4. This is one of the smallest solution, without disassembling your gun.

I didn't mention budget because I wasn't sure what a decent case cost. If the cheapest case that fits my needs is $150, I'll save my pennies until I can afford it.
That Eagle case is definitely nice, but I like the additional storage of the others. Thanks.

The storge of the Eagle(the first one I linked) is in the INSIDE. They have holders for magazines, and molle for you to attach other pouches!

Lastly, forgot to mention the holy grail (IMO)... MobileArmory Hardigg Fieldpack w/ Storm Case, bulletproof design, the soft case carry 2 rifles easy... this is going to run you couple hundred bucks... but, it is 1 solution for all... for everything you every needed...
