This may be a stupid question but:

Why don't we just have FELON stamped on CA Driver's License or Identity Cards instead of AB 962?

Then purchasing ammo or firearms would be just like buying Booze or Smokes.

yes, but why would they want to do that when they could take away everyone's rights...

why should one be required to present ID to purchase ammunition? This would still require a face to face transaction and would eliminate Internet sales.

You do realize there are online vendors that require you to fax or email them a copy of your drivers license, right? Needing to see a drivers license does not stop internet sales from occurring.

And yes, "FELON" should be stamped across ID's, but the problem is someone would ***** that it disenfranchises the poor helpless convicts by placing labels on them.

AB962 seems to be more about limiting people's (not just criminals) access to handgun ammunition than fighting crime or keeping prohibited persons from obtaining ammo.

You could stamp "DON'T SELL AMMO TO THIS GUY" on someone's ID. A criminal is still going to break the law. That's what makes them criminals after all. He'll just steal it from someplace or more than likely ask a friend or relative to buy his ammo. Laws like AB962 just screw the rest of us who actually follow the law.

Hey, I was all for tattoing "child Molester" for those guilty of that crime on their foreheads. Your idea seems relativley tame. We need to take back this society.

Why would you spend time tattooing the forehead of what should be a corpse?

why don't they just stop letting people out of jail until they've payed for there crimes and then when they have, they have. Instead of having all of these layers of citizenry.

AB962 has little to do with keeping ammo from felons.

Society in general and especially our bubble-headed legislators need to just accept the fact that you cannot legislate crime out of existence. Criminals will always break the law. But by making more and more stupid laws trying to legislate crime out of existence, you actually end up making otherwise law-abiding people into criminals.

If it's already illegal for a felon to be in posession of a gun or ammo then what good does passing a law that restricts the access of law-abiding people to ammo supposed to accomplish? The felon wasn't buying his ammo legally anyway and so he will just continue to buy it by some illegal means as before. But now the law-abiding person is restricted and the felon will just carry on as usual.

all politicians care about are passing as many empty measures as possible for re-election they don't care about anything else.

As many have said in previous posts, its not at all about public safety or reducing crime, its about control and power and they use any means to get it including "its for the sake of the children".

Because this works for drugs, right? Felons can't buy weed or cocaine can they?

Because the ACLU would most likely sue on behalf of those poor felons who are being discriminated against.

I like this approach, but crimes are generally not set right with punishments. How can someone convicted of attempted murder get off with good behavior after a few years?

What is the "price" they pay? Monetary, time, morally? Someone who accidentally kills their bestfriend in a DUI accident could be argued that he'll morally have to pay for the rest of his days. Something jail or fines could never do.

I'd like a clear system here, but it's hard to define one. I do however feel we need the death penalty for murderers and those who severely impact a child's life in a negative way. However there needs to be either complete DNA and/or video of the act occurring.
