There actually is cell phone service depending on your service provider. I have Verizon and have made and received calls out there; and then sometimes I can't. I guess it depends where you are standing out there.:)

I hope those who have said yes are bringing their families or SO also; the more, the merrier.

I can provide 2 x 5ft tables and 1 x EZ-Up Canopy. . . I slightly broke the canopy trying to take it down last year camping, but it should work fine. . so if there is a second, that would probably be good.

I can also bring 2 coolers, dry ice and ice.

I don't have a lot of ammo as I am broke as an almost convict. . . but if you bring the ammo, you can shoot them.

I will clean them when I get home. ;)

I am going to try and bring a few people with me. I have a friend of my wife's, her boyfriend (the wife's friends boyfriend, not my wife's boyfriend. . . he doesn't like guns), maybe another Calgunner that isn't so well known.

Crusader, if that is all you want for lunch, that's cool.;) In all seriousness, you might want to bring an actual meal for yourself. It sounds like some people will bring extra stuff and they may share, but we have decided there will not be any selling of food. If we do that, the FS requires 15% of the take. Not Lytle Creek, but the FS. It is their land, their rules.:)

^ This. Never will food be sold at a CGN event; we will take donations for CGF, however, at each and every one. I suggest that donations be made offsite so that Lytle has no bearing on the issue. I'm sure the creative minds involved will figure a way to make it happen.

FS is indeed the Forest Service and in this case, they are big brother. They own the land the range is on and the Lytle Creek Corp. leases the land from them. They have to follow the rules or the range can be shut down.

From what I was told, the FS people they deal with are actually pro 2A and like the range being there.

Just a fyi to all who are coming: When you go to pay and get your wristband, let them know you are with the Calguns group. They will direct you to the proper shooting area (One of the last two ranges on the left end).

If you get there a little later when it is crowded, you will not have to wait like those who are not part of our group will.

It looks like this is going to be a really great event!

Serious question: How are you going to protect your child's hearing. I don't know if anyone makes hearing protection that small other than perhaps cotton or silicone ear plugs. I can't imagine a child that young will keep those in their ears or hearing muffs on their head if they make them that small.

BTW, the last two shooting areas at the left end are reserved for us. Lytle Creek calls them B1 and B2. When you fill out their paperwork and get ready to pay, let them know you are there for the Calgun event.

This way, even if you get there a bit late and all of their ranges are full, you will not have to wait, they will just let you drive back to our area.

What I will say is this: Everyone who has access to EZ Up's please bring 'em. Shade is one thing I would rather have far too much of than not enough of. Same goes for chairs and tables. Add Food and Drinks to that list too... LOL. I would rather have to tell people to leave stuff in their vehicles than to say "sorry about the sunburns, dehydration, and that we don't have enough food".

Thanks for the info. When I called them last week, they had nothing on sale. I was really hoping for a straight leg one, but a 12x12 is a 10x10 at the top I believe and I can be happy with that I guess.

jaymz, you just aren't thinking hard enough.:D

JaMail, yes you can bring your metal targets. The last time I shot on the last range, there were metal targets there at different distances. They are owned by the range. I don't know if they will be up for us tho.

Ok, just called them; no fruit or veggies allowed. They are actually closed today due to the high winds.

The "stands" they sell are actually cardboard targets stapled to 2 furring strips. They also sell paper targets you can staple onto those when you have too many holes in the original ones.

I would highly recommend everyone to bring either a hammer or some type of tool with a point. The ground is very hard and the furring strips are thin. I bring a hand size sledge hammer, pound two holes into the ground, then lightly pound the furring strips in. There are plenty of rocks there you can use to brace the strips up also.

I will call them Friday (tomorrow) to ascertain if the FS will allow them to open on Sat. The FS is the one who closed them today; it was not the range's decision.

I will post in this thread what I find out. Hopefully, we won't have to postpone this event.

Hey Retired!
Yea those little targets they have can be a real pain to stake when its windy so what we do sometimes is use those big flat steel stakes they use for concrete forms (can be found at home depot) and then use those to drive into the ground with a mini sledge. Then we put the wooden poles next to them and wrap a bunch of duct tape around the leg. This secures it pretty good and will keep it from falling over cause for some reason wood doesn't stay put when pounded into the ground especially when the wind is blowing.:D

Dummy me, I didn't even think about that. I have about 10 of those my landscaper neighbor gave. I used some at the Area 53 shoot for a 8' homemade wooden target I brought.

Thanks for reminding me. I will bring those up and share. Even if the FS allows the range to open, it will probably still be a little windy, so they will come in handy.

Will you be there.

I've seen people shooting them there, so I would say there isn't any problem. IIRC, they also have a club of .50 cal that shoot there sometimes.

I don't know if you recall that at your belt fed shoot, there was a guy who had just bought one of those .510 caliber rifles (I believe that is the caliber). He was set up at the left end from you. $8K for his setup.

He bought it from the guy who sells those at the gun show all the time. That vendor has his own .50 cal on display also at the show.

I just spoke with the manager and he said the FS will be lifting the red flag warning at 8pm tonight. He also said he didn't see anything in the weather report to indicate there will be a wind problem on Sat. Nevertheless, I will call him at 3:30 on Fri. before they close and get updated info. I'll post here.

On another subject: I just thought of something that was done when an earlier shoot was held there. They have a form that has to be filled out by every shooter when they get there. It is two sided.

To save some time for us and them, I asked him if he could email the forms to me so I could have it put in the thread. This way, we can each print out the form, fill it out and have one less thing to do when we get there. Since there will be a lot of other people there there aren't part of our group filling out the same form, we should be able to save some time.

Now, the problem. Being computer illiterate, I don't know how to get his email to me that has the form into the thread. Can I forward it to someone here who does know how to do that (I suspect that is everyone but me:() and they can put in the thread for everyone to print out. Instead of being two sided, he sent it to me as two separate pages. Just fill it out and staple it.

Thanks.

Jared, you will be able to drive your car right up to the range area as there is parking in front of each shooting area. You will just have to walk about 20' to the shooting area from your vehicle.:)

As far as getting there, it is very simple. Take the Sierra Ave. off ramp off of the 15fwy. If you are going N/B on the 15, turn left at the bottom of the off ramp (west).

It is about 10 miles to the range. You will drive thru Lytle Creek, a small village. After you pass thru, it will just be road and open area. The asphalt ends at the range. Make a right into the range area, park by the office and pay. They will direct you to the Calgun area on the extreme left.

Hmm.. interesting

What is the distance of the range we'll be using? Anyone know?

ke6guj

the far left range goes out to 300 yards. However, they don't always allow usage out to 300 yards, depends on fire season.

edit: my bad, didn't realize tht there was that little area to the extreme left. I doubt that is the range we will be using. DOn't even know what it is used for.

If I remember correctly, the private range goes all the way up the mountainside and ends at 300 or 400 yards.

i was going to this morning, but ran out of time and had to catch the train.. retired didint get them till pretty late and i only saw them around 6am.. im guessing from the really bad scan job the lytle folks did, they arent computer friendly people, depending on my boredeom level, maybe ill convert it to a PDF form for them to post on their site.. a present from their freindly calgun neighbors.

As I mentioned before; we will be using the last two long ranges on the left. They both go to 300, but we won't know until we get there whether we will be limited to 200 or allowed to shoot the full 300. Either way, it will be fun.

ripcurlksm, I'm sure there will be some Garands and AR and AK OLLs. I don't know about any AR type pistols. I have a featureless AK OLL with some mags and a drum from the old Pomona gun show during the 1990s.

I don't have much 7.62x39 tho, because the last time I went to Lytle with 3 other Calgun members, I got a little carried away and almost emptied my ammo can. I'm leaving my Yugo SKS home or between the 2, I will shoot it all and I don't have the money to buy more now.:(

Also in addition to the .doc version of Lytle Creek's form here is a pdf version as well:

PDF:

DOC:

This version is an OCR reproduction of their document and not just a simple scan. So it should look and print better than the originally posted files.

The range provides the forms. The only reason I had them email them to me was to save time. There will be people who are not part of our group there also and they too, have to fill out the same forms.

I figured if we already have them filled out we will get to the shooting area that much faster. If you can't print it, don't worry about it; they provide pens and it only takes a few minutes to fill them out.

I made these out of 3/4 inch PVC pipe. It cost less then 2 bucks, per 10' section! So the top post, where the target hangs from is 22" Long, as well as the bottom post both front and back. The height, is 1 10' piece cut in two, to make 5 feet, and the rest of the bottom pieces that come out of the T's are each 18 inches. You will need 6- 3/4" - 90's, and 2- 3/4" T's. It only takes about 20 min to make, its super easy! It actually needed just over 2 10 foot sections. So if you wanna make one, pick up 30', 2- 50', and 3- 70', and 4- 90'. PM Me if you have any questions!

Ok everyone see you tomorrow!

After you check in with the range (be sure to say you are with the Calguns group) make your way to the far left ranges. Before setting up on the firing line/setting up tables/chairs/etc check in at the table with the Calguns banner. This way we can ensure everything is setup for a safe and enjoyable day and be productive for shooting, and discussion regarding 2nd amednment activisim.

Just a reminder be sure to bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water. It is going to be a fairly hot day tomorrow. For food and drinks that you wish to share, you will be directed on where to place it (and your cooler) when you check in.

See you there!

It was a great day! I am glad we had such a large turnout and everyone had a good time. It was good to see people there with their families and friends.

It was nice to put a face to the many names I've seen on Calguns and I enjoyed meeting all of you. Eat Dirt, mrlonewolf and Crusader, it was good seeing you guys again.

bballwizard, I was happy to share my shade with you and your girlfriend and I'm glad you both enjoyed shooting my Ruger MK III.

Before I left, I stopped at the office to thank Jeff, the manager (the guy on the quad when we first got there), for letting us have the two ranges for our use. He said we are always welcome to return and do it again.:)

The next time, we will tape off the area when we first get there (he said we can arrive to set up as early as 7am, but 15 minutes should be enough time). We had some shooters who were not part of Calguns, but they had them move to the other ranges to ensure there was room enough for our people.

If anyone from the Lytle Creek Firing line is reading this thread, thank you very much for allowing us to have two large areas to ourselves to shoot, meet and have a good time.

One last thing: I left a little after 3pm and passed a San Bernardino Sheriff's deputy driving toward the range (I had only gone about 1 mile or so). Did he make contact with anyone still there and if so, how was it.

ETA: ripcurlskm, that was a funny moment.

I saw the Sheriff's patrol car come near our area to make a u-turn, but didn't notice an incident.

I know it looked like we were discussing important 2nd Amendment matters at the rear of his truck, but he was just giving me some .223 rounds to shoot for my new AR.;) Great guy!

Lone wolf, thanks for cooking for me!! I am positive i would have messed it up terribly!
Sean Casey, and Pennys Dad, you guys are great! So much effort and work from you guys made this a solid day! I just wish I was able to get there sooner! Next time! Besides that, Thank you everyone for coming, it was great putting names with faces, I think we should do this at least 4 times a year! I think we should squeeze in a BBQ every now and then, for the people that are newer to the sport, and still trying to build there ammo stash! I think I remember Pennys Dad volunteering to pay for everything, as long as it was at Lone Wolfs house, and Sean Casey was bringing the beer..I could be wrong though!

sean, please let me know if you need help with anything, my girlfriend and I are down to help with anything.

My girlfriend has a group of business-minded young women(20's-30's), I am going to take them for their first shoot and video tape it and put it on youtube in the next few weeks

Well the day just rocked! My kids and I had a great time. Was good to see Lonewolf and eatdirt again as well as all the new people I met, As well as some I already knew but didn't know they were calgunners like HK996. Beetle, thanks for your kindness in letting me fire your Saiga, As well as the others who showed me theirs as well, Thanks HK996 for letting my 7yr old fire your choice AR even though it scarred the crap outta him, I got a good pic out of it! Lonewolf thanks for letting me fire your AK. You really have the heart of a servant for all the work you did today. Retired, was nice meeting and talking to you as well. I worked so hard to make this a memorable day for my kids hoping that it would be and to Sean, Retired, Lonewolf and all involved, you guys made it memorable. Thank you!

Well, when we are officially ready to do this again. let me know so I can contact the board member I dealt with in setting this shoot up. We have the range manager and the board member on our side, so it should be fairly easy for me to get the reservations. Again, next time we'll set up the barrier before they open with the Calgun signs to prevent anyone from shooting in our area.

The banners will, on the other hand, hopefully draw some of the shooters to come over and ask questions about Calguners.

As an aside: did anyone driving n/b south of the 210 around 7:30am see the car fully engulfed in flames on the right shoulder. By looking at the wheels, it appeared to be a nice care. The flames were shooting about 10' high. The owner was standing by the CHP car and cones were up. It was a total in every meaning of the word. Even if the fire dept. got there 10 seconds after I went by, the car was still a total goner.
