Thanks to Sonoma selling me a comlete Armalite A-2 lower at good price, because they had difficult time ordering from Shoeless, it was an easy finish for my FAB-10 with an Armalite 16" A-2 upper (20" A-4 I'll get later). I really wanted a folding stock, but maybe I'll do that later. Now I have to send back all the lower parts, good thing I didn't even unwrap them. Anyway, couldn't wait to shoot it, so in spite of rain went out shot in the rain today. First 10 rounds went without a hitch and then the bolt started binding. I've read to lubricate, lubricate, lubricate the bolt and thought I did, but not enough. After several liberal applications it started to close just fine, but did delay me a bit. I've shot off 60 rounds at 50 yards with 1.5" or better MOA and I didn't even mess with sights, yet! http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Almost no re-coil compare to my SU-16, but with the muzzle brake it is also louder. Suprisingly, it wasn't too bad loading the fixed mag (how I wish it wouldn't be fixed). So here's finally the question for you FAB-10 owners: How do you speed up loading? Stripper clips only? Stripper clips and loaders? Grin and bear it without anything?

cg,
I might be interested in your lower parts for a build I have going.
What brand and what parts do you have?
Interested in a sale?

What kind of lubricant are you using? Not necassarily true that the AR bolt needs oodles of lubrication. I get by with a fairly thin coat of LP.

Can you even get a stripper clip guide in there?

CG..

[BTW, CG, you DON'T have an Armalite lower. You have a (Shoeless) FAB10 lower. Your vendor just put Armalite small parts on it. It is still a FAB10.]

Make sure your bolt lugs and mating bbl extension lugs are both lubed.

New upper? May have had crud from test firing, sitting around, etc. Use that chamber brush + some BreakFree CLP to clean it. Wet the rear of the bolt and its bolt carrier opening with CLP so no chance of even slight rotary binding.

Exercise the follower in the 'magazine' dozens of time up & down with something like a popsicle stick.

Yes, it is new and you are right, again. I took it apart last night and it was cruded up.
Should work better now.

I guess, I haven't figured out the quote thing yet.
The answer to the first is: I already sent the parts back.
And to the second: You are right, Bill I should have been more specific.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Or...are is the bolt failing to strip the top round out of the magazine and getting jammed when the bolt locking lugs of the the bolt hit the top round? If that's the case, then as Bill suggests, you need to work the follower in the magazine because the follower is binding on the mag walls. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

That is exactly what it was doing; I guess I have more work to do. Thanks for that and the tip about the stripper clip modification.
