View Full Version : Something us new guys need to realize about OLLs

Where we are now with the OLL movement is a result of a LOT of effort, pain and sacrifice by some of the more senior members of this board. This realization really hit home for me today.

I am going to have a senior member of this board do some work on my AR-15 next week. I saw him give some advice on AR related questions in the gunsmithing forum and I messaged him to see if he could do some work on mine. Nice guy and I'm going to bring it in next Saturday. So here I am bored this affernoon and I decide to look at some of his old posts. It turns out this cool guy who is totally willing to help a noob out is one of the ones who has actually FOUGHT for the OLL rights us new guys take for granted. Turns out in '06 the BOF seized some perfectly legally configured ARs from his shop, got the local DA to file a bunch of bogus charges, made this guy spend a lot of money on lawyers and defending himself and finally 2 years later the DA had to drop the charges because there was no crime commited. At some point (im a little fuzzy on the details) there was a bug placed in his shop by agents of the BOF. Seriously. This is what these guys who have been here a while have delt with.

This is just one case. There are others. People have been arrested, property has been seized, lives have been irreparably damaged so that we can have our OLL rifles. I for one want to publicly say much respect and thanks to all of those who have had a hand in this fight so far. Thank you.

As for us newer guys, what can we do? Donate, Donate, DONATE. There is still a lot of distance to cover. Donate to the CGF here http://www.calgunsfoundation.org/
Donate or become a member of the CRPA here http://crpa.org/
Join the NRA. Take someone shooting. Help someone build a BBR (beautiful black rifle). PAY ATTENTION to the laws the gun grabbers are trying to pass and write your representitives about them. We can all do something. We can make California back into the free state it once was.

Donations to CGF GET **** DONE. That is a group that makes it happen every day, folks. If only 10% of our ammo budgets were instead donated, what would our world look like?

Also, make sure to bring your family and friends to Calguns; your voice will be heard, but we need your help! The combined strength and power of the Calguns Community (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=218779), Calguns Foundation, NRA, SAF, CRPA... who wants to go play? :43:

OLL=Off List Lower=Firearm actions which are similar to those which are listed as Cat. 1 AWs in California.

I try to donate as often as possible. This is for our rights that have been long mistreated. I often feel like a criminal because I'm a gun owner. It shouldn't be that way.

DOJ at one time tried to prosecute me for 219 Felonies :) Then they wanted to merely have me sign over $60k worth of your property to be destroyed.

Ultimately, 3 days prior to us filing a suit in Federal Court, they retuned everything.

I spend somewhere north of $30k to get back two of my lowers. and 217 of yours.

Winning is PRICELESS!

There are listed AW pistols and scatter guns too. Then, there are off list ones which are nearly identical.

Thank you. Up until about 9 months ago I thought AR-15 rifles were a thing of the past here in California. Then I found CalGuns. I tell all of the people I talk about guns with about CalGuns. The CGN, The CGF, and all the work you guys do is priceless.

Well said; donation sent. I second the person who said it sometimes feels like you're a prisoner as a gun owner in California, but Calguns lets me know that I'm not alone!

LG - Thanks for pointing out what a lot of us take for granted (myself included :kest:) Don't forget that CGF is now has IRS 501 (c) (3) status.

Once again, thanks for the translation of OLL.

I had seen all those Black Guns at the range with those little bullet buttons. They make me laugh. California tried so hard to ban "ugly" guns and were defeated by a single bright idea. A single bright idea and a lot of hard work and sacrifices on the part of some CalGunners.

Sometimes it just takes a good idea (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=45322).

Hat tip to a couple of folks who helped and Mr. Prince for executing.

If I remember right that fight and a few other is the reason some of the senior member started the calguns foundation.
I do remember all those crazy times.

I'm proud to say that I've spread the black rifle disease to 5 other friends. I hope they will spread the information and the disease to their other friends, and their friends will spread on to other friends, and so on.

Great post LG. Yes, we owe a great deal to the CGN foundation and those early trail blazers. While we have made huge gains, the fight continues. Donations are of course important - but equally important is bring new people into the fold. And I don't mean just black rifles, but shooting sports in general. Take a friend shooting and get them involved in the fun aspects of the sport. Then introduce them to CGN and give them an appreciation for how the state legislature is trying to make their new found hobby illegal.
