Hey, I'm looking at few cases for my AR and wanted to get some opinions.

1. Eagle Soft-Hard Discreet Case 35

2. Eagle Discreet Case (CAR-15) LE
http://www.eagleindustries.com/product.php?productid=696&cat=67&page=1

3. 5.11 Tactical Double Rifle Case

4. TAC Force TTS
http://tac-force.com/tts33discreetsoftguncase.aspx

4. SERT TCC
http://www.sertsystem.com/html/sert-TCC.html

5. Galati Square Discreet Rifle Case with Modular Pocket - 38 inch
http://www.galatigear.com/store/product.php?productid=16236&cat=282&page=1

This case would double for storage as well as transport

1. I like the color choices on the Eagle LE case and Is priced in the middle of all of them. Like the lifetime warranty. Padding seems limited

2. I like the overall shape of the Eagle Soft-Hard case, the extra padding, and the Lifetime warranty. Side zipper might be kinda inconvenient, accessory pouch seems less viable, and colors are limited

3. 5.11 - Awesome price, backpack carry, modular pouches, CONS Ninja vibe, imported

4. The SERT TCC seems well padded and has a modular accessory pouch. However, it is the most expensive case, I cannot find anything about its warranty, It seems to have a rubbery finish from the pictures (confirm?), I'm not a big fan of the modular weapon pouch.

5. The Galati is the least expensive case and appears decently padded, but again the finish seems to be rubbery finish (confirm), it only comes in black and Id rather have a lifetime warranty.

You don't need much padding to protect a rifle made of metal and plastic. You're mostly looking to prevent cuts/dings/scratches, which even a layer of fabric will take care of.

For travel to the range, you will want a soft case. Hard cases are too big & too awkward to pack.

If you plan to travel by air, things get different (more abuse) - that's when to get a hard case. One option is to get a hard case that can hold your soft case. I did this with mine, but now they nicely make soft cases that fit specific hard cases.

You can buy the Eagle case now, and upgrade with the hard case down the road.

Another option I would HIGHLY recommend is to cheap out on the case and get yourself a small safe.

Unfortunately, I can't have a safe at this point in time. If I decide to go cheap I'll probably buy a 5.11 case on sale at LApolicegear http://www.lapolicegear.com/5ta36dorica.html
but I was kinda trying to decide between one of these 4.

Hey Joe, I did see those. Price is good and ACU always looks awesome. Glad you like it

Galati is junk and they don't stand by their products.

If you have the cash, I like the 5.11 rifle case. (http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Home/Law-Enforcement/Accessories/Gun-Cases/36-Gun-Case-AR15-M4/D/30100/P/1:100:10000:10900:10910/I/58621)

If you want to save some money, this one is working great for me (http://www.lapolicegear.com/tactical-36-rifle-case.html):

I have a voodoo tactical bag thats meant for 1 rifle but I regularly keep an SKS, 18" AR with A2 stock, and a Marlin 795 with padding between them. I keep a spare complete lower in the large pocket as well as shoot-n-see targets, towels, eye protection, 1 can of CLP, all in one bag. Then my range bag comes out. Great bag for 50 bucks. I beat the crap out of that thing and it takes the abuse and keeps coming back. http://www.voodootactical.net/Items/ms-15-7613e-p?&caSKU=ms-15-7613e-p&caTitle=36-inch%20MOLLE%20Soft%20Rifle%20Carrying%20Case%2c%2 0Padded%20Weapon%20Bag%20with%20Backpack%20Straps

This is the bag but mine didn't come with backpack straps as that is a slightly newer model than mine. Its been the only change on that particular bag in a few years now.

That is a good price on the Voodoo Tact. . They are asking over 1bill now at most places. I have a Condor that was 40 at one of the Gun shows and a TAC that was about 68 at On Target a year ago. Both are very good quality. I may have to get that VT to only carry one bag to the range. Thanks for the link bombadillo.

5.11 stands by their products and makes nice stuff.

That's a good price.

Honestly, you don't need much of a case here, unless you're anticipating tossing it out the window to get it to your car. ;)

+1 on Voodoo Tactical. Great prices and good quality bags, I have 2 of them, a single rifle bag and a double rifle bag. There's plenty of storage room, that's what sold me. IMO Voodoo Tactical cant be beat for the price.

Looks like the Galati and the SERT are out. Trying to decide between either Eagle and I've added the 5.11

Another +1 on the Voodoo Tactical double case. I carry an AR, an AK, two pistols in their own pockets, and a bunch of mags in the outer pockets. The NRA has the Voodoo double case with the NRA logo stitched on it on their website as well...

I know a lot of guys poo-poo on NcStar but I got one of the CV2907 bags and it's done me great so far. heavy duty zipper and fits a scoped AR nicely. I paid $17 on ebay for it, brand new.,

I'd go 5.11 if its only between those two.

I bought the 5.11 case from LAP. Very nice solid construction. Buy the 42" case instead so you can load longer rifles. The closeout limits you to the FDE color which I like anyway.

It's not on your list but here's another vote for a Bulldog case. It's cheap and it works. I just got mine and have taken it out a few times. It's worked great so far.

One thing I've wondered since I have a molle backpack is the webbing is rather rough. could that scratch up the finish on the rifle? Its a hobby rifle not an assigned duty rifle.

I just got the 5.11 case a few weeks ago and overall I like it. One issue though I will share.

The backpack loops can be adjusted for high carry or low carry. Because they need to be removable they simply slide through loops. The problem I have is when I pickup the case by a backpack strap to throw it on my back the straps slide through the loops. I end up with a long strap and a short strap. I was going to see if I could find a local shop that could sew the straps to the loops so this won't happen.

One other note the 5.11 double case fits well in a Pelican 1750 with an M4 and Benelli M1S90 inside of it just in case you are flying.
