So I am coming into a few bucks, and I am for sure gonna get a new rifle. I want an AK and I like the two black ones from http://shop.hendersondefense.biz/category.sc;jsessionid=AD24FE8D2723847BEA6505ADDBF 797B9.qscstrfrnt01?categoryId=4
can anyone tell me the differences, other than price, furniture and grips.

Are there any other places that sell good AKs?

And.....if anyone has any other recommendations with the range of $650 or less that would be much appreciated as well. Im open to all ideas, I just like the AKs

PS I already have a .308 bolt, .22lr, and a 9mm so now I need a semiauto rifle

certified wasr, or saiga, and enough $ for 500rds of ammo roughly..

I have a wasr from HD, it shoots, nothing special, not super accurate but it shoots.

I'd go with a Saiga 7.62X39, new wood furniture, AK mag conversion, and enough USA parts to meet legal requirement.

There's always the cheap AK pistols coming around now (~$350)

Everything but Century & Saiga rifles are going to be out of your price point, so you're on the right track.

You might consider the Arsenal Saigas if you want to do a conversion, since they're 1/2 way there already.

I've bought one rifle from Henderson Defense, PSL-54c and it came in great shape. I had it two days after I put the order in as well.

That being said, I do like those Saiga rifles quite a bit. I've shot a few and they're pretty nice. Especially if you already have a .308, you don't have to buy some different caliber rounds.

And on saying that, looks like Henderson just dropped the price on their PSL rifles to $680, so for a few bucks more...
(Ignore me, I'm on a PSL kick right now)

how hard is it to convert the saiga keeping it ca compliant?

how much is a basic conversion kit?

Still, does anyone know the $150 difference between the two Black AKs on HD? thanks for the input

If you're referring to the WASR and the Yugo underfolder, then those are the differences. The Yugos are nice, IMHO.

The underfolding stock will need to be pinned open.

how are those things legal?

It's registered as a pistol, not an NFA short barreled rifle.
No stock...no rifle.

single shot exemption.

There's a metric ton of threads about non-Roster pistols & the single shot exemption.

not to crap your thread but on the subject of pistols. if they have to be dros'd as a single shot how is it legal for us to put a 10 rounder in it once possession is taken? and if its a pistol why do we need the bullet button??

to answer your question the more expensive rifle is an "underfolder" which seeing as how how we are in CA you wont be able to retain that function the buttstock will be folded open and welded. so at that point it will be a difference in looks.

The single-shot exemption allows you to get it into California, or to transfer it once it's here, because they are not on the CA-approved handgun roster. Once it's legally in your possession in CA, however, the roster is irrelevant and you are free to use 10-round magazines.

A bullet button is required because it is a semiautomatic pistol which accepts a magazine outside of the pistol grip.

Independent Armament is excellent. Fees are in their forum.

Fort Courage is further, but also good.

Atlantic Firearms has some as well. They recently joined the board so you can probably get just about anything CA legal if you send them a PM

I got a WASR from HDI a while back. They were great to deal with. The gun has been great and I would buy from them again.

You could retain the underfolder functionality if you attach a long muzzle device (does not have to be permanent as long as barrel is 16"+) that makes the overall length of the weapon at least 30" when folded.

This is the best option IMO.
