View Full Version : Which stock on your featureless AR?

I am wondering what stock you use on your featureless AR, and why.

I currently have an A2 stock with a Solar Tactical grip wrap. I love the grip wrap, but feel I am too far back with the 2 stock. I am thinking of switching to a Sully Stock or RRA Entry Stock, but am looking for some feedback before I make the change. I also saw a short version of the Ace Skeleton.

Any pros, cons, or other suggestions? Or am I just crazy thinking that I need to get closer to the sights?

ETA: If it matters, I plan on using this rifle in an upcoming carbine class.

The entry stock is way too short IMO. Look at the VLTOR A1 or A2 rifle stock. The cheekweld and battery compartments are excellent.

A1, Sully or pinned collapsible are good choices.

I would not recommend the entry - it's too short for almost anyone.

I have an Ace Skeleton on my "could-be featureless" build, it's nice. Love the padded cheek rest. Good length for me, but I got the full size version. I thought the entry version was too small.

I was going to use the Sully myself.

I went with a1 length stocks almost the same length I run my collapsibles at. The vltor a1 is really nice.

I was wondering about this too as I want to get a Featureless set up. Pics would be great as well as I run my collapsable stocks on the 2nd setting.

I used the A1 stock, picked it up from Fulton Armory complete. Feels perfect.

CTR Pinned to the length I am comfortable with :43: I would love to try out a ACE Skeleton, but it would not match my color theme unless I died the foam FDE :o

How did you pin you're CTR? I am running a FDE color scheme and a CTR but I don't want to permanently fix the stock or drill holes in it or anything.

That looks really nice. Do you shoot w/ shoulders squared up to the target? Where does this setup put your nose in relation to the CH and rear sight?

Thanks for posting the pic.

Ace Skelton on one, and Ace Ultralight on UL build to come

MMG on one, maybe MMG or Solar Tact on the UL build....

Pretty much shoot squared up, yes. Stock on pectoral muscle rather than shoulder pocket. Nose is just about touching, but don't get popped by recoil.

You can get them from Sully: http://prostores2.carrierzone.com/servlet/defensive-edgenet/-strse-Parts/Categories

I got a great deal on mine (brand new/installed then removed) off of the ar15.com equipment exchange. I paid about half what they retail for now post Obama.

Even at today's prices, I'd buy another one if I was doing a compact, featureless build.

Be aware that the Sully stock is a heavy beast so you'll definitely feel the difference once mounted. I shot one for almost a year before moving to the VLTOR fixed rifle length.

Which of the mentioned stocks work well with a MM grip? I like the idea of the fixed VLTOR A1 or A2, but I'm visualizing a huge gap between the MM and stock. IIRC, the ACE stock looks half decent with a MM, but I can't find any pics.

Yes, the MMG fits and so does the Solar Tactical grip. You may have to do a little bit of trimming (easy to do with a small hacksaw).

Some older builds -

The spec I saw showed the Sully Stock weight as being about the same as a regular M4 collapsible stock with buffer tube.

I've got a Sully on order, so I will find out soon!:D

question. runnig one of those setups, if you want to add features, you would simply have to put a bb on and run 10 rd mags correct? At first i thought they looked abit awkward, but i like the idea of hi cap mags.

SuperSet

Correct. If you add a collapsible stock, flash hider or vertical foregrip, you need to go with a fixed mag configuration (i.e. Bullet Button). But you will be limited to 10-round magazines.

Not so fast my friend...
It's lighter than an A1, A2, Ace Skeleton, and others. Virtually the same as Stag M4 Commercial Carbine stock.

Ah, you're correct, very helpful chart. I compared it to my VLTORS and it always felt heavier.
