so long i debated about building one, trying to learn all the parts and combos, decided to just go ahead and order a complete ruger SR556 for pretty much the same price if not cheaper for what it would have cost me to build one. Ill be building up a calgun.net lower and will have a calgun.net SR556 ruger kaiser and then sell off the complete lower from the ruger, or maybe keep it as a spare for another gun build later on if anything

gun was ordered with a bullet button, thats the only way they would ship to CA, and only with 3x10 round mags. DDs ranch seemed to have the best price, even tho the wait was a while, now i hear you cant find them anywhere and have to wait even longer.

here are some pics, nothing fancy, and thats a non functional 30 round with no internals

i believe it was $1460 around there shipped with bullet button, not sure if its TROYs i havent looked it over closely yet. i like the rubber grip however, and maybe im wrong, but it feels like a stage 2 trigger, i might be wrong...

i ordered some 1,200 rounds of PMC will try and make it to the range soon, its exciting :) i only shot an AR at the range 2 times, so i dont have much to compare

Yes, the Ruger SR556 is a gas piston AR.

That's the first lower receiver I've ever seen without the caliber stamped into it anywhere! OH- beautiful rifle, by the way. I'm really diggin' on the fancy B.C. with that SA-WEEEET laser etching!!!!!!!

Nice rig. :68:

Hogue grip and the Troy flip ups are a nice addition. Should shoot well with PMC, i have never had a failure with that stuff.

I bought a SR556 from DD's Ranch also ($1495 I believe). The gas piston rifle comes fully loaded with top of the line components. It comes with Troy BUIS and Troy quad handguards. The included rail covers are also Troy. The grip is Hogue rubber. I couldn't build a DI with the same parts for the same price. You can't buy most GP uppers for the price of the complete Ruger rifle. It's an incredible deal. DD's Ranch installs a bullet-button for you at that price.

My only complaint so far is DD's Ranch won't send the 3 Ruger 30 round (Magpul PMAG's) to Kalifornia. Dean sends 3 C Products 10 rounders instead. I asked Dean if he would send the 3 original Ruger Mags to my FFL who has a Hi-Cap license. Dean said sure, as long as I send the 3 C Product mags back with an additional $10 check to cover shipping. It sounded fair to me. My FFL converts them to 10/30's before giving them to me. But I haven't heard from Dean or recieved the mags yet and it's been about 3 weeks. In their defense I haven't contacted Dean at DD's Ranch yet to find out what happened. It may have just fallen through the cracks. I'll give him a call tomorrow to find out the status.

But the bottom line is DD's Ranch is offering an incredible rifle at an incredible price. I just might have to buy a second one. But if you're thinking of getting one from DD's Ranch, I'd suggest arranging with Dean to have the original 30 rounders sent to your FFL for conversion if they are set up to do it.

i had to wait about 2 weeks for my gun, 1 week backorder, 1 week delivery. Even tho i seen it in person when it arrived, i couldnt pick up till the following monday due to the 10 day period. However that following monday i was also leaving for 2 weeks, so after about 4-5 weeks i finally got it.

yes they wont ship the 30 rounders, and they dont have the "rebuild kits" 30 rounders, so i got the 3x10... i talked to my dealer Rob here in sacramento and he said he will hook me up with the 2 x 10/20 magpul mags for my 3x10s

so ill have 2x 10/20s and i have 6x30s magpul rebuild kits as spares to convert to 10/30 or something

3 things ill do

get a scope or 2
swap the lower to a calgun kaiser
swap out the butstock

Why swap out the lower? If you already own a calgun lower thats one thing, but if you don't, save the money and put it towards better optics.

Can someone with one of these Rugers test it with a high powered scope and match ammo? I'd be interested in seeing the results.

had the calgun lower before i even ordered the SR, i was planning on building one up, but its actually cheaper to buy the ruber, so ill swap and sell the ruger lower, i wont shoot it till then so it will be new lower for someone

Cross your fingers and hope nothing goes wrong with the GP upper, if you need warranty repair the serial number that links to your warranty is on the lower. After all this is the first year for the SR556.

Congrats on the rifle! I'm stuck on either getting a SR-556 or a DDM4.

If Bill was still breathing air, the 'Ruger 556' simply wouldn't exist. Betcha'!

I have also been looking at the Ruger 556, do you guys think it would be a suitable alternative to a Sig 556?

I was looking at the Sig 556 ER. The main purposes of the rifle would be some home defense, blowing up fruit as fast as i can, SHTF. I just want a super reliable platform and I really like the Gas Piston systems over DI. My rifle would see a lot of use, some at the range but I go to the desert and the forrest, so above all I need it to fire every time. I dont care about bench shooting.

Nice looking zombie defense weapon

Also is there really much of a difference between the 556 Classic and SWAT other than the handguard?

Another option that the industry has created is going to a mid length gas system on carbine length guns. This gets the gas block farther away from the chamber and sends cooler smoother gas back into the bolt carrier.
