View Full Version : Gun Case for AR15

08-31-2009, 8:41 AM
I am building an AR15 using a 22" long barrel, A2 stock, and scope. I need a simple gun case for the rifle that also meets any California requirements (lockable?). Looking for suggestions on a good case that will only be used to carry weapon from car to the range. I have one 52" case, but it is too long to even get into the trunk of the car, and just barely fits inside.

Recommendations? Soft or hard case is fine.

A locking case is not required for long guns.....especially if it will be transported in the trunk.

Are you wanting a soft case or hard case?

Creedmoor Sports:

The M16/AR15 case should fit a 22" barrel and an A2 stock, but I don't know about the scoped aspect.

Their Deluxe Scoped rifle case can be purchased in a 41" length.

Pelican. 1750 model might fit. If not, you can store it broken down in half.

One thing to watch out on the cheap soft cases are:

1. Zippers that go all the way to the front end, such that the muzzle can rub the zipper while in the case. Never want the crown to damaged.

2. Cases where the zippers are on the bottom when holding the handles. In case you forget to zip up a case or the zipper fails when you pickup or are carrying the case by the handle.

If you want instant gratification, go to J&R in Livermore. They have nice AR cases. I got mine there.

I have a Condor soft case that I got from Cheaper Than Dirt. It is a pretty cheap case that has served me well so far...

Although the link I posted is for a 36" case I think they sell larger ones too?

I am still loving the Blackhawk Discreet soft cases. They have several sizes, and the straps inside can be used to secure the rifle so that the crown gets damaged. You can also add more of your own Velcro straps (just go to the hardware store and get the hook-on-one-side-loop-on-the-other "earthquake" straps).

The other case I like is the Voodoo Tactical Double Rifle bag, but it screams "gun bag" at anyone who sees it.

Didn't like any other soft cases I tried. Either they didn't protect the rifle enough or didn't have enough pockets.

ocabj's review (http://www.inlandshooters.net/index.php?contentid=49)of Creedmoor's AR-15/M-16 case convinced me that I needed one. It's leaps and bounds better than the vast majority of the soft cases on the market.

The case is plenty tall to fit a 20"er with a scope and bipod on it. I don't think your extra 2" of barrel should be any problem, as there is a bit of room to spare (lengthwise) in the case with my rifle in it.

Voodoo tactical case is the cats meow. Get them online or at the gunshow.

Condor is a cheaper copy of voodoo.

Go to a pre-owned music shop and get a case for a bass guitar. Mine was $20 holds anything up to 48 inches and the neighbors never look at me twice when I'm going to "band practice"

I have this one and love it. 42" long. Great padding. Has backpack straps, repositional straps for your rifle, and a huge front pocket with mag straps, 4 removable mag pouches and a built in holster for your pistol.

If you are looking for a cheap soft case to start LAPG has one for $20.

Get a 1950 weapons case. Army issue is the best and most padded of course. And they look cool too!

I bought the ultimate mall ninja case from cheaper than dirt, and I'm thrilled with it. Very high quality. Definitely not long enough for a 24" barrel, but since I'm sure other people with M4geries are reading this topic too, I thought I'd mention it.
