The discussion of necroposts reminded me that I posted the link to this over two years ago.
So the recent appearance of the squirrel catapult is a duplicate post.

Man.. I hate squirrels. They're as bad as rats (get into your house, if you let them), they're just cuter so people put up with 'em... Hell, they are rats, just rats that live in trees (or your garage).
Good necro-post Ted! I love seeing that little SOB take flight. :43:
These things use to drive me crazy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Red_Squirrel They'd get inside the eaves and run around while I was trying to sleep. I picked off many a red with a Crossman that was much older than I.
These little bastards, too. They'd get into the house and chew on stuff... phone cords (inside walls) seemed to be their favorite: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipmunk

People underestimate the threat squirrels pose to modern society.
Like rats, the front teeth of squirrels are in constant growth. The animals need to gnaw on things to wear their teeth down. They don't just like to gnaw, they have a biological imperative to gnaw.
http://www.ratbehavior.org/Teeth.htm
One of the things they like to gnaw on is wires. Electrical wires, phone wires and cable network wires.
No power. No phone lines. No cable.
No internet.

now that I think about it since I make a living off of things breaking down I kinda forgot how many calls I get cause of rats, squirrels, mice, possums and pigeons desroying stuff. Mabey we shouldn't hurt them then it would give me more work, job security.;):D

Haha, the updated version of my dad's Crosman that killed so many of the varmints.

Shoulda named the thing "silent death." The neighbors never suspected a thing.
I want to try that next spring when the squirrels come and eat our sunflower plants.

I would have a problem giving a child a BB gun that was named Pumpmaster.

that was my first BB gun. it's an accurate SOB with pellets, but with BBs...eh.
It's still under my bed. It works better when it's rusty and not cleaned. seriously.

Look, I realize that squirrels are pests and could cause problems in some areas. They could also carry diseases. However, what I have a problem with is people using these facts to justify killing animals for fun and clearly killing squirrels does not require contraptions such as the one in the video. To me these people are no different then little kids ripping wings off of flies and torturing cats. We all know what they grow up to be. If the animal population needs to be thinned, it needs to be done efficiently and it needs to be done humanely. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any species other than humans kill for fun or "sport".

I was not here 2 years ago to see that, but that's damn funny.
Squirrels are pretty good jumpers.
I have a couple in my back yard.
I'm pretty sure that one probably ended up in one of those trees out yonder.
Now how do you get the bungees attached evenly to the bowl so that you can launch them in an aimed manner?

Apparently you've never seen a cat catch a mouse.
Or a troop of Chimpanzees....or lots of other animals.
But it's a common cliche.

what makes you think the squirrels are dying? Squirrels regularly fall from great heights without damage.
Think of it as radical relocation.

There are some pretty good sized trees that I can launch the neighbor's cat into.

speaking of squirrels, there must be a serial squirrel killer on the loose.

Like deportation?
Works about as well. The squirrel probably came back. Probably avoided the big shiny nut shell.

Oh man, we could setup some BIG versions of those catapults along our southern border.
Put some of those cowboy hat and brama bull stickers on them to attract the game.
POW, right back across the border you go.........
That would be awesome.

And I still say it's an acceptable idea along with walls, barbed wire, electrified fences, machine guns and everything else that would prevent criminals from entering the country. The big difference is that illegal aliens have or should have the mental capacity to avoid getting killed by NOT BREAKING OUR LAWS and staying home.
What exactly does this have to do with killing and torturing animals? Personally, I'd much rather buy some peanuts for a squirrel than give a penny to an illegal alien.

You should read my post more carefully. All I said is basically a) animals should be killed humanely and b) animals should not be killed for fun. I own leather jackets and I used to own fur hats in a colder climate. So clearly I am not a "PETA type". I am also not the one that decided to correlate animals and illegal aliens.

Well, this has gone very far astray hasn't it?
From a squirrel sling to illegal aliens and landmines.
And all for the amusement of making it happen.
We're done here.
