Title says it all... where's the closest place I can go if I wanted to [eventually] shoot 1,000 yards (or maybe a couple hundred lower)?

I posted this in the rifleman forum because I figured I'd get more replies here.

Not too far - Coalinga, Palomino Valley, Red Bluff

Thanks for the quickness!

Which of those places require you to be a member of their gun club or range to shoot at 1,000 tho?

I hear you don't have to be a member at Sac Valley on the weekends but ya gotta get there early. I hear it fills up fast.

Interesting... can anyone else confirm this? It might be worth my time...

I think you have to be a member to shoot 1k: http://www.sacvalley.org/SacVal/Membership__Fees.html

qualifying isn't a problem. Membership fee is.

During the weekend matches, anyone can pay the match fees and shoot. During the week you must be a member, or the guest of a member, to shoot.

Monday is benchrest practice.
Tuesday is Palma practice.
Wednesday???
Thursday is XTC practice.
Friday???

Sac valley.
To use the 1K shooting area,
must be a member, and have at least one other person with you, and must resurve the space, no just drop in's.
Also need to prove you and your guns can do it.

Not a member just as I know the rules.

Best place to shoot 1K is in Nevada, but that kinda kills the "close" for you.

I believe Sac Valley membership is quite reasonable (something like $100/r). The 1000 yd range looks to be well-utilized on weekends (as most will be, since they are so scarce). They also use the 1000 yd range for the 200-600 yd matches as well, so you can't shoot 1000 when the line is closer to the pits!
