I remember driving down south 10 days after the SJ gun show and there was a red BMW pulled over about 100 miles from Taft, the guy walked in 15 minutes after we did with a big smile. The ticket for 100mph wasnt even an issue, he just wanted his lower.:)

The Beginning: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=24777

Our own Wes was the very first to offer commercial sales of OLLs, but he wasn't the first to transfer an OLL...

At the bequest of many of the OLL group buyers, I'm actually going to write a book about the whole thing, detailing my call to Alison after the "Inspection" (raid) on RMB where I literally told her "...If you think these are illegal, come and arrest me."

Then Gene and I got all 219 seized lowers back from DOJ: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=79366

It's a good story, it's got intrigue, police raids, sex, threats, airplanes, and it ends with bill wearing a unitard!

So when are you guys going to write a book? You know, to document the concerted effort to roll back California gun control laws? I hope it's never the case, but such a book may become required reading the rest of the US.

ha ha...

my story with wes/10%....

so i underestimated the hours of the san jose gun show for that weekend that wes was gonna show up.

i arrived sunday afternoon around 3:45pm. i thought they closed at 5pm. nope... 4pm.

so i explained to the school that had $10 parking that i just needed to just sign some paperwork so they let me park for free.

i run to the ticket office. they had a closed sign. so i walk to the door and explained i just had to sign some paperwork. old man looked at his watch and let me in.

crap... all i remember reading here, was he was gonna be in the back.

i walked around and i saw something that looked like an Ar upper.

i asked if he was wes/10%.

sure enough it was and we talked for about half hour. i forget about parking so i quickly finished up the paper work and ran back to the parking lot where one lady was waiting for me. i felt bad so i gave them a $20...

about 2 weeks later, an FFL who ran it out of his house mentioned he would do the transfer and MUD (is he still around) had a group buy of like 40 stag lowers. i managed to snag a couple from him. plus i already bought a couple from that seller from the east coast...

fun times...

and i was constantly running within 2 weeks... lol...

I ended up not getting a receiver from Wes, as that is when Fulton started all that crap about not wanting to sell Wes the receivers. I actually did end up getting a Fulton from Ben in San Leandro.

Back in those days, the SJ show was pretty small.

And I could not stay at that Dec show for as long as I'd've liked to have. But I had some buddies selling misc. odds'n'ends at the show that kept calling me all weekend with rumors - "They're gonna arrest the redhead!!" (meaning Wes @ 10%)

Also, having all the paperwork with the lowers helped stave off local LEO attention. The local deputies attending the gun show were querulous that AR receivers were unbanned but they read my papework, the synposis of Harrott, and wished us good luck.

I remember waiting in line at the SJ gun show with that crazy red head behind the table. The old man at a nearby table put a cloth over his table and took a few minutes off to talk to the show organizers when we blocked his and two other tables. 10% had a long line of customers while every other table had none. After doing my paperwork, I went outside to help out with the NRA table, and my little daughter was very patient with me. I'll have to build up an AR for her one day.

The 456GT had a button that can adjust the handling. It was soft, med, sport. The CD would skip on everything but soft. I was making a wide sweeper turn with it on soft and just as i hear the back end starting to loose traction I started to correct for drift, the next thing I know the car is handling like a 56 Buick. The body roll was crazy, I knew it would get worst so I back out of her and it went into a ditch. Cost me 28K to fix it and 3 months later the owner stuffed it again.

Ive driven, flown, all kinds of high end cars and boats but this thing wanted to go straight and liked 35mph.

The wiring on it had issues as well but most Ferrari owners know this already.

If anyone wants to buy it I will sell it to you for 25K. pic in a few

Damn how time flies!

I remember showing up at the SJ gun show that November.

Saw poor Wes after they had moved his table to the back by the curtain. He looked like he hadn't slept for TWO WEEKS! :D

He was busy explaining the OLL concept to a guy who looked ex-MIL/LEO. Something about him being so close to that curtained off area really bothered me though. I kept thinking to myself, this must be some sort of sting?

After you pay, he escorts you around the back behind the curtain:
"Here, lets go around the back and you can look at which OLL you want so we can start the DROS."

"I can't keep them up front in the main display area due to the controversial, secret squirrel nature of what is underway."

"You understand, don't you? This is a Dogma moment. We just found this loophole and are about to blink Iggy, Allison, and the entire DOJ out of existence." :43:

I follow him around the corner only to find....

I swear I did four laps around the show, looking at Wes's booth out the corner of my eye before finally taking the plunge and ordering a Fulton instead of a Sun Devil.

I remember getting the call saying Fulton got spooked by the DOJ.

I remember scouring ARFCOM and getting rejections by the dozens by folks thinking I was some sort of ATF agent setting them up (not that I blame them. At the time OLL wasn't a term that had been tossed around until a few days before).

I remember paying $300.00 to have an $79.00 lower shipped since I only had half a week left.

I remember going to JD in SJ, driving around the block three times looking for the Feds/DOJ panel vans waiting to take me away. :TFH:

I remember walking out of his garage two weeks later, clutching a brown paper bag close to my chest like I had scored a kilo of unobtainium. Was it just me or did he pimp those safes pretty hard?

OLL group buy? Did that, got the shirt. Was crushed when the second group got theirs seized.

Good times.

Thanks again to Ben, Scatch, Wes, and Mr. Bill Weise for making our dreams come through.

In celebration I just drosed a Calguns lower. Congrats to all the great minds we have on board here. No question we could not have done it without you.

Thanks to the pioneers of this movement for all their hard work and what it takes to go from banned to back!
