i found this company

http://www.57center.com/1.html?sm=60893

that makes 'em.

if you look at the mag release, it's a simple grind down flush, drill a hole so a cartridge can be used to release deal...

uppers are in the $700 range.

you are about a year too late my friend i have mag locks for them so no grinding needed :)

Since the mag release is ground flush it is still operable to pull back with just a tighter grip?

Cause if anyone is able to pull back on the mag release and it actually disengages the mag then that would be a big no no!

Cool idea though

So nor cal, do you have a setup lock for it or just a 10 round cali compliant mag?? I couldn't find the lock you were talking about on your site.

Yes.
To do it right, you need to cover one side and increase the spring pressure so you can't get a grip on it anymore.

+1...just because you might not have the finger strength to pull squeeze and pull it back...someone else might be able to...it's very possible and I saw it with my very own eyes!

spend the money and get a proper maglock

Let me borrow an upper for one week and I'll fabricate one for you.

I'm not trying to stir up an argument with you or anyone at all because I, too am an AR15 owner...a few anyways...

Now theoretically couldn't the same be said about a Bullet button? For the most part most anyone is unable to release a mag using a BB without the use of a tool...But if someone comes around and has, for whatever reason, a long fingernail and was able to release the magazine....how does that work???

Or go featureless- that's what I did.

RRA Tactical Muzzle Brake, MMG, A2 stock, and you're good.

I have an AR57 upper and I'm not that impressed with it honestly.

It looks neat, and is fun to shoot- but I can't get it on target. It may even be defective I'm not sure. I have a Midwest Industries front sight, and a DPMS rear sight, both clamped to the rails. I have to adjust the windage on the DPMS rear sight all the way to the left, no matter what I do, just to get on paper at 25 yards. I know the sights are good because I've used them on other rigs and they work great.

The AR57 is fun, and I'd say it may be a good choice if you already have a PS90 or an FN Five-seveN just to have more guns to use your 5.7x28 ammo in, but otherwise I think there's better calibers to build with. The 5.7x28 isn't a very robust round for anything but varmint shooting really, unless you buy the military stuff which is insanely expensive, and even then- how often are you going up against armor?

Still, if you have an excess $500 and want an upper to play with get one, but keep in mind that mags alone are about $70 each.

I play guitar and as a result I have fingernails long enough to actuate a BB- but only if I cut them in a crazy-thin fashion. Under normal "wear and tear" I'd never be able to keep a fingernail from breaking if I cut it that thin. Seems unlikely that someone will happen along with a fingernail thin enough to actuate it.

There was an instance though where an evidence dept claimed that one of their workers had a small enough finger to actuate the BB without a tool. I don't remember the username but someone on CG had a rifle confiscated and the PD (SDPD I think) wont give it back because they don't recognize the BB as legit, due to someone's tiny-as-hell fingers.

I'd rather it come with a standard mag release as I would run it on a featureless build.
