SAFE OC Political Action Committee is continuing its work to restore CCW issuance in Orange County by supporting the election of a pro-CCW Sheriff in 2010.

Last month, SAFE OC unanimously endorsed Bill Hunt, former Lieutenant and Chief of Police for San Clemente, in the 2010 Sheriff's race. Mr. Hunt has publicly and unequivocally pledged to issue CCW licenses to citizens who meet the age and residency requirements and are not in a prohibited category -- with personal safety alone as "good cause." This weekend, SAFE OC is hosting a booth at the Crossroads of the West Gun Show in Costa Mesa. Candidate Bill Hunt will be stopping by tomorrow, August 23, at 12:00 noon, and will be available to meet voters and answer questions.

Saturday went great. Mr. Hunt stopped by from 10:30 am to 1 pm and spoke personally with, by my estimate, about 30 individual voters or inquirers. The SAFE OC booth itself had heavy foot traffic all day and lots of visitors. Some already knew of Hutchens' actions and came to commiserate and confirm that they would be voting for Hunt. Some had never heard of what Hutchens had done and were learning about it for the first time. We were able to show them FBI crime statistics proving that "shall issue" jurisdictions have about 27% less violent crime than "restricted/no issue" jurisdictions. Unlike Hutchens, we in the firearms community have facts on our side, not just feelings and assumptions. ;-)

If you're at the Costa Mesa gun show today, come by and see us!
