Are there any good ranges that allow steel-cased ammo (Barnaul, Brown Bear etc.) in the San Diego County area (preferably north county...I'm in Carlsbad)? Iron Sights and American Shooting are the big indoor ranges but neither allows it. Indoor or outdoor is fine as long as they allow pistol, rifle and shotgun. I really don't want to drive so far that it becomes an obstacle to practice. My only other option is to my more expensive brass-cased 7.62x39.

Score! Thanks. I'm a little new to the area so I apologize if this was an obvious question.

no worries, Pala range may have a ammo restriction.
Rainbow may be a good bet

I haven't heard that steel is banned at the Escondido Fish and Game range by Lake Wohlford; you're just shooting into a dirt bank. But you have to be a member or know one to bring you as a guest. They have rifle, pistol, and shotgun. Going trap shooting there tonight!

south bay rod and gun has no restrictions. 75 for annual membership so 4 visits will make up your cost.

I don't shoot there but doesn't discount gun mart allow steel? Would someone who goes there chime in?

Negative.

As someone else said, Project 2000 in El Cajon will let you shoot Wolf to your heart's content. I dunno anywhere else.
