Does anyone know if they are open during the week? I wanted to go tomorrow with a friend but I just heard that they are weekends only. If that's true, where else can i go that is not too far from Ventura that has long range steel targets? Angeles is about 60 miles from me and Piru is only 35.

Does anyone know of another outdoor rifle range with steel targets in Ventura county? I dont know if there is anything closer than Angeles but if you do, let me know.

I could go up to Cherry Creek but I dont want to get busted by the forest service because of the current shooting ban due to fire hazard...

Ugh...ya you're in a tough spot. I'm in Simi which makes Angeles tolerable. I know it's not any better distance wise but I though I saw mention of a range in Santa Barbara. Let me check.

there is also the ojai valley gun club. its open to the public once a month that i know of maybe more. if you find anything close let me know also cause i live in oxnard.

if your looking for skeet or trap shooting point mugu has that going for it and the base is supposed to be building another range that might possibly be used for the gun club on the base but that might be awhile

There's "A Place To Shoot" in Valencia/Santa Clarita on San Fransiquito (sp?) canyon road. It's a good outdoor range with steel and paper and sporting clays. Not too much farther than Piru.

There's a place off the 33 called cherry creek. It does not have steel targets. It's a shooting area. You could bring your own steel targets and set them up. It's free, just remember to haul out what you haul in. There is a thread in the range clean up section.

You may also want to consider that Angeles is a bit more accessable. You wont have to travel winding mountain roads to get that and they allow steel cased ammo.. Good luck in your search for a good outdoor range!

Consider becoming a member at Ojan Valley Gun Club. Membership gets you access 7 days a week. Afternoons on Saturday and Sunday see only light use. The drive takes 45-60 minutes from Ventura, depending on where you live (still a long drive, but the scenery is nice).

The facility has multiple rifle/pistol ranges out to 600 yds, plus muzzleloader, archery and skeet ranges. There is a fee to join, plus $75 per year (no other daily fees, though), as I recall. You have to be recommended by a member. You can contact me if you're interested.
