Springfield Armory offers the Black T finish for about 200 bucks but I didn't want to send the pistol in and wait for it. Does anyone know of a gunsmith in California that can do any of those special coatings (bear coat/black t/armory kote etc)? I just want to drop the pistol off and pick it up in person.

There is plenty of people on this board that can do it for you. Best thing is post your location. Tech is a person you can contact if you are in the bay area.

My Gunsmith in Pioneer does an awsome Duracoat job.... This is Duracoat Combat black. I am sure he could do any otehr finishes as well, but you would have to ask him.....

I just had him do all of my Sigs to get rid of the holster wear so I could sell them..

This guy specilizes in 1911's, but not sure if he refinishes. He could probably at least steer you in the right direction. He's in Corona:

How scratch resistant are those finishes?

How scratch resistant are those finishes?

I don't have any personally experience but I read that the finish is more durable than most. Robar I heard might be a bit better, I know afterwards your parts don't need lube with robar.

I'm a certified Cerakote applicator. I'm not sure if I'm in your area or not. I'm in Walnut Creek, which is in the bay area. Here's my web address:

I am running a promo 5% discount on in stock colors right now, and I have quite a few. I've done high end 1911's like Les Baer, Night Hawk, etc. and also 1911 like Kimber, S&W, etc. Let me know if I can help you out.

The best finish for your gun if you just want the toughest not the "gucci" finish is IonBond.

I'm taking a pistol to Daves Metal Works for him to have it coated with Ion Bond.
Cerakote is a great finish and you can get it in many colors and make your gun look real nice but I'm an IonBond guy.

Not on Sigs they don't.

They ruined one of my P226 slides. They dunked it in acid after blasting off the original finish and raised the weld that attached the muzzle end of the slide to the rest of the folded sheet metal. Ooops! They did not know it would do that. Did they replace my slide? No. They did me a favor, though, by not charging me for the labor.
