Just found out I can buy a new GLOCK at a dicounted rate under the homeland security discount. I currently own a recently purchased consigned Hk usp 40 c with approx, 800 rounds through it. The HK shows wear marks on the slide from being holstered...which i think adds character. I cant afford to keep both, what should i do?

I'd probably do it since I favor the G17 over a USP compact in .40S&W. However, if you like the HK then keep it. They're totally different to shoot. One's DA/SA or SAO the other is a striker fired safe action wanna-be DAO.

I prefer the Glock over the USP, and the XD over the Glock, but that's just my preference. You can't go wrong with a G17, especially if it's for a great price.

Get rid of the Hk and get the Glock....you'll have money left over for ammo.

Go rent a G17. The answer should be obvious once you have fired both.

Where do you live? Nor-Cal?
I will BUY you a G17, G19, whatever Glock you want for your UPS40c. I have owned both. I trust my life with my USP40c that I have carried as a backup / off duty gun since I bought it NIB in 2000.

OK, let's see... I own a Mercedes but I can get a great deal on a Chevy (or Ford if you prefer). I'll need to sell the Mercedes so I can afford the great deal on the Chevy, but I'll have money left over for gas, etc.
Thanks, but I'll keep the Mercedes.

Other have discussed the quality of the 2 manufacturers. I would question the choice of calibers. You mentioned the Glock 17, a 9mm handgun. Can you get a similar discount on the Glock 22, a similar sized 40 cal. handgun, or is the 17 the only one? I think the 40 cal. is supperior to the 9 mm. Since your HK is 40 I would say stick witih that. If the Glock 22 is available at a discount then you have an apples to apples comparison, ammunition wise. Now you would get into a Glock vs HK battle. If money is a major issue in the decision, then go with the Glock. Quality wise both manufacturers have their supporters, with the HK probably slightly ahead of the Glock. You are the person who has to shoot the gun and feel comfortable with it. Stay with the 40 and use the gun you shoot best with.

Glocks are the Bic pens of handguns. Relatively inexpensive, simple, and unexciting. That said, I would trust my life to my Glock before any other handgun I have shot, including my revolvers.

Keep the HK, that discount has been around for quite awhile. Most likely it will be around long enough for you to save up and get the glock too.

 Other opinions are worthless, unless you want me to shoot the gun, drive your car, sleep with your wife, etc., for you.
With something like this, you just need to do it yourself.

Has anyone mentioned that the HK USP originally came out at the same pricepoint as the Glock? Didn't sell initially, so HK raised the prices on 'em a couple hundred and marketed them as tacticool (or "Mercedes"). Started selling like hotcakes then. :p
OP, looks like you made the right choice. Both are fine firearms and would make a great addition to anyone's stable. The discounted Glock will be one of the best purchases you'll ever make.

With the Blue Label price, Why not keep the HK. Price point the Glocks for comparison, You will save at least $100 off the top and in most cases even more. Firearms are investments, They don't depreciate like most other items.

whichever feels the best in your hands...or whichever makes you feel like you have a bigger d!ck....whatever's more important to you. You're the only one who can decide if you should go with a specific gun. From what i gather the glock is more accessory friendly, but the HK is a solid gun too that demands its own respect. Not much of a glock person, but i also dont have much experience with them. figure out what's the most important thing about a gun for you and go with the one that satisfies that if you can't have both.

Keep the HK. I recently got a HK USPc 9mm. Man is it accurate. I mean surgical type of accuracy and right out of the box. The HK is now my SD gun and the glock 32 is now in my BOB bag.
I recently read what I thought was a good opinion by someone comparing the glock and HK. "If carrying outdoors (hunting, camping, backpacking, survival, etc.), choose the glock. For city carry or home defense choose the HK."
In my own opinion, I like the SA/DA aspect accompanied by the safety/decocking selector lever allowing you to carry the gun safely while locked and loaded on the USP.

HK's are awesome, but so is a Glock. I've just gotten to the point that a $550 gun that goes bang every time is just as good as a $1000+ gun that goes bang every time.

I have had a my fair share of HK guns and for the price, I didn't feel they were any better than my Glock guns.

I had both but I like the single action triggers better. The DA on the HK has a long trigger pull.

I own both. I would keep the HK.
Same here. I own both. I do not accept the notion that a man can own too many guns. But if I were in fact limited to just one, I'd go with the HK. I have the LEM variant action on mine, with Trijicon sights on both pistols.

The HK is an EXCELLENT gun. Don't ever get rid of it. There is no reason to trade down to a cheapo glock. It feels better, shoots better, has an excellent trigger, etc etc etc. But as usual, it all comes down to what you feel comfortable carrying, etc. So go try the glock, shoot em both.
I would NEVER trade my HK for a glock. ever.

WTF did you say?
Sell both and get a Sig.:D
Honestly, forget what everyone tells you. Choose the one that you shoot best. I once collected many Sigs and HK's and snubbed Glock until I got to shot the G17 and sold all my HK's except for my P2000 9mm and sold most of my Sigs and only kept a few. It shouldn't be about the brand but by which you shoot and feel best for you. I have models from all brands that I love and some that I hate. Shoot both and then decide.
