I was in a Turners and wanted to purchase one of their consignment guns. I was told the gun had to go through a 30 day background check before my 10 day waiting period could begin. 40 days total!

I can't find anything about a 30 day background check on a weapon before sale. Is this for real or was the clerk trying to discourage a sale?

Thanks.

They want to sell a new gun rather than the consignment....

yes, it is real. No, he wasn't trying to discourage a sale, they make ~20% on those sales.

The 30-day check on them has to do something about it being a pawn of sorts.

The 30 day wait is so they can make sure it isn't stolen before they sell it to you. They have to send paperwork to Sac via snail mail, have it manually researched in databases, and get a reply back via snail mail.

It's an insurance policy of sorts, but it is a real pain.

You can start the 10 day before the 30 day check is complete. You don't want to do it right away though in the case that you get hung up picking up the firearm. The standard 30 days to pickup still applies or you have to start the dros over. Make sense ?

As the others have said, this is standard procedure for consignment sales. Sounds like you must have found it the day when it was first consigned, I guess you could always ask how long it's been there.
